Here in CA it's the California poppy. A few years ago, our town's gardening club gave away 10-lb bags of poppy seed, to be spread as one will. That was a ton of fun!

Where I'm from (West PA) everything is laurel something or another. Like Laurel Mountain, Laurel Highlands, Laurel Hill, etc.

They're usually...um...blue! This is the "Texas Maroon" produced by horticulturalists at Texas A&M--where the school colors are maroon & white.
