he absolutely RUINED the andy griffith show. but, by the time it went to color, barney was gone, gomer was gone, and they brought in a corpse in a suit called howard sprague who was so unsexy and icky and overexposed i had to take three showers after every viewing.

and andy had become mean too. all the niceness and home spun aw shucks was gone, and he smoked a lot and snapped at people and never smiled again. i think he killed a few jaywalkers too.

but howard sprague....the only guy i'd rather punch in the mouth more is that fat fuck on the Ditech.com commercials! boy i'd like to....

He was always portrayed as the "bachelor". No wonder.
Andy had a mean streak. I remember the episode where he had his hand bandaged up and it was explained that he had to deal with some criminals. He probably put his hand through a wall in real life.

The best part about the show was its "folksy" charm so when it embraced counterculture...it lost it. IMHO Barney was the heart and soul of that show, so when he left, the whole damn show went in the toilet.

...but as bad as Howard was, I really got irritated by the guy they dressed in the deputy's suite after Barney left...they guy who's main comedic schtick was a rapid ÿeah, huh, yea, huh,yea,huh...they called him Warren, and he bugged the piss outta me.

8. I feel the same way about MASH

After Henry left and then Frank Burns; well the show just never was the same. In fact, it sucked.

And Howard Sprague was an ass.
