What's your favorite cruising song? |
|
The kind of song that you just have to turn up full blast as you're driving on a beautiful day with the windows down...and you can't help putting the pedal to the metal.
I have several favorites. I always loved the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" to cruise to. "Keep your eys on the road, your hands upon the wheel." Then there are a couple of obvious ones--Deep Purple's "Highway Star" and Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild"--yeah they're cliche, but they're still good driving songs.
I recently added a new one to my list when it came on my car radio as I was driving along on an unusual warm day: Guns'N'Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle." It worked. (And besides, Marge Simpson and her girlfriend were cruising to it when they had their 'Thelma and Louise' night.)
There's one more, that might be more esoteric, but it's a great one, especially for those of us who've been "in Massachusetts late at night" "driving by the Stop & Shop with the radio on." Jonathan Richman's "Roadrunner." Great song, and one day it actually came on my car radio when I was driving by the Stop & Shop (on Alewife Brook Pkwy in Cambridge) with the radio on. That was great!

CD that was good for that...
... I always thought that CD would get me a speeding ticket...
Or some mellow rock or some old 80's stuff like "Land of Confusion" by Genesis...
Or, when I first got my license... "Master of Puppets"..
I have more, I just can't think of them...

Crusing songs don't get better than that, although BOC has some other fine choices - Harvester of Eyes, Golden Age of Leather, The Subhuman, etc.

but Bruce Springsteen, "Born to Run" does it for me. Also, there was a band from my drunken summer youth on Cape Cod called the Fools. they had a song "Pscyo Chicken" (sp??). I will find that cassette on occasion and blare that one also.

I forgot about that one--it's definitely one to crank up. I remember the Fools--saw them play many times. Yeah, "Psycho Chicken," to the tune of the Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer."

30. That f'n Cadillac commercial ruined the Zep song for me |
|
When I see yuppies (who wouldn't know Led Zeppelin if the band bit them on the ass and shoved a fish up their butts) singing "Rock and Roll" in their Caddies, I'm ready to :puke: I hope I start to like that song again some day.
But the AC/DC ones are definitely keepers--could do some good cruising to those, especially 'Rosie.'
