And feel like a total bone head, how do you fix it? I mean, do you pretend nothing happened? Make people laugh? I'm only asking because I do it so often, and lose a bunch of friends in the process.

It used to happen to me a lot. Then I stopped drinking and remarkably, it hardly ever happens anymore!

I exit the situation a quickly as possible, then go home and smack my head against the wall for a while.
