8. the same problems with Iron Chef Japan have manifested in Iron Chef USA |
|
mainly lack of interesting secret ingredients. Trout? Big flippin deal... I want to see them cook with something UNUSUAL. Screw trout, give me Kangaroo Rat, or Ruby Throated Humming Bird, or Sea Monkeys.
And I hate the celebrity panel. Get some real American up there to demonstrate our awesome sense of the culinary arts.
"Yeah Morimoto, this Squid testicle ice cream with lime and habanero is pretty good, but I'd kick your ass for a Krispy Kreme donut right about now... and what's with these small portions? I took the Misses out to Red Lobster last night for the All You Can Eat lobster banquet and we cleaned the place out. Hell I think I even ate a napkin or two..."
and of course -
"Hey, pass the ketchup. Everything tastes better with ketchup."

10. Sakai would have won if this were in Tokyo, too . . . |
|
if you looked at the scores, Flay won on taste, which is Sakai's strong suit in Japan . . . this was Sakai's first battle in the U.S., and he hasn't yet adapted his approach to American tastes . . . that's why gasbag Flay could win with his his glorified Taco Belle menu . . .

Where's the JOY in this guy's work? What's with the permanent scowl and the forced smiles?
I don't think the Iron Chef format translates well here. Half the fun of the original series was the voice overs: "Kurizon?!" "GO!" "Iron Chef Sakai has pureed the eels and is now adding ice cream, fois gras and soy paste to his desert!" "Hmm...sounds yummy! I can't wait!" "Ice cream in desert? That's very original. We've all had eels and fois gras as desert...but ice cream? Sakai is a master!!!"
Plus, I miss His Weirdness, Chairman Kaga. Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - bites into a yellow pepper with such a mixture of delight, menace...and insanity!

I could care less about the Sox. I'm just waiting for my Spurs to get their crack at the Lakers next round.
Just remember that there are folks on the West Coast who haven't seen these shows yet at time, okay? :D

We watch FoodNetwork almost every night. We Ara totally addicted! We tend to watch Emeril because he's just coming on when we get home from work. My faves though are Alton, Barefoot Contessa and Tony Bourdain.

I may have to root for Morimoto. He has this fabulous restaurant here in Philly. Been there many times and it's always superb! Last time I went to Mario's Babbo, it was disappointing.

because Sakai is the fish master, and this time Flay actually worked his ass off. He had the one sous chef--an asian woman I saw on his show beofre, she was good! Forgot her name, but she deboned a fish on that show I saw earlier.
I like the new chairman! But I also miss Kaga :-) at lleast the "nephrew" kept a bell pepper on hand

|
Send 'em all over to Tokyo and have the contest there, then see who wins. Better yet, France ~ where REAL chefs come from ...
