NFL Draft Thread-Your teams pick?
I think the Packers are gonna go for a DT or DE-'prolly Tubbs, Starks or Dockett. Jason Babin DE.

outside chances-WR Lee Evans or QB Losman (funny name)

Bears will go with that WR from Wisconsin or Wilfork if he's available.

Just another name Im throwing in the ring. I don't think Lee Evans will go that high, he's good it's just that I don't think he'll fall that high. But hey, I could be wrong.

3. Vikings
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 08:25 AM by RatTerrier
http://www.startribune.com/stories/510/4740214.html

The Vikings appear set to take the same tack this year, beginning with their No. 19 overall pick in the first round. The team has compiled a list of 24 players it deems worthy of that selection, a group that includes linebackers Jonathan Vilma (371 tackles in three years) and D.J. Williams, defensive linemen Will Smith (21 career sacks), Kenechi Udeze (28 career sacks) and Tommie Harris, and offensive linemen Shawn Andrews and Vernon Carey.

It is believed the Vikings' progression through that wish list will begin with linebackers and move on to the defensive linemen. If all five of those players have been selected -- and many observers project they will be -- the Vikings will move on to either Andrews or Carey, with Carey perhaps holding an edge if both are still available.

Although they have no need for an immediate starter along the offensive line, the Vikings eventually must find a successor for right guard David Dixon. Depth is also a question mark.

In a draft deep in wide receivers, meanwhile, the Vikings might be tempted in the first round. But they have recently shied away from the one most likely to be available at No. 19, Washington's Reggie Williams.

Some idiot from CBS Sportsline actually thinks the Vikings will draft a RB. Must not know anything about football, since they have three RBs already that are starter caliber. Here it is, good for a laugh:

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7270021

19. Minnesota -- Kevin Jones, RB, Virginia Tech. The Vikes addressed corner with the signing of Antoine Winfield. That allows them to go after backfield help in the first round.

:wtf:

Keep in mind, this year's draft is thin at RB.

19. Not to mention...
Moe Williams and Onterrio Smith.

Any of the three could be a highly effective starter in the NFL.

They are stacked at that position.

Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 08:47 AM by mouse7
Between the Chargers/Manning soap opera and Oakland picking high, who the hell knows what will happen. Nobody on this Earth or any other Earth can guess what Al Davis might draft. Could be a lineman, could be a punter or a long snapper.

The Redskins will take Gainey if he's there. Gibbs loves his Hogs. I doubt Gainey will make it to them, though.

5. Raiders, please take Roy Williams or Fritzgerald
OR, trade with NE for their 2 picks, get like Evans and a QB--Reggie Williams from Washington, Lee Evans (wow he's made a great comback from his injury)..the Qb--I saw him in the USA Today Drafy section--he could be a steal.

Meanwhile, those Patriots are just living right! getting Corey Dillion and 2 1st round picks to play with...and they were already loaded!

I think he's not worthy of a number 6 overall. They might trade down, depending on who is available when it's their turn to pick, acquire another pick and take Jackson.

10. Am I going to have to hear "Band of Brothers" theme for whole draft?
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 08:46 AM by mouse7
Yes, Pat Tillman's death is tragic. That said, if they are going to be talking about it THIS MUCH, either borrow a news talking head from ABC to do it or get Al Micheals on the draft desk to do the story. Micheals has been forced to cover hard news in the past, and done well with it. Chris Berman is about to start nicknaming coalition generals, and if I have to hear Mel Kiper, Jr. doing Tillman hard news coverage, my brand new TV is going to be flying out a bay window.

15. Denver Broncos
Steven Jackson(if he falls) or Kevin Jones, Jonathan Vilma, Randy Starks, Rashaun Woods, DJ Williams are players they'll possible look at in the 1st round. 2nd Round-Bo Schobel, maybe Donatarrious Thomas, Karlos Dansby, or Michael Boulware if two things happen. They don't get an OLB in the first round and either one of the three happens to fall, and available wrs and rbs. 3rd round-Ahmad Childress, Brandon Kennedy, DeMarco McNiel, Rodney Leisle, Tatum Bell if he falls(they may get him in the 2nd). 4th round-Brandon Johnson, Bernard Barrien, Kris Wilson, Jeff Smoker(Denver needs a backup), Keary Kolbert. 5th round-I strongly wish they'd get Clarence Moore, Robert Kent, Maurice Mann, actually I have no idea who'd they look at in the 5th, 6th, and 7th. On note these are players they'll probaly strongly look at and maybe pick, most of these will probaly be gone when Denver's pick rolls around.

Hearst is pretty fragile, and the Broncos have always been good with young RB talent.

Without an effective running game, Denver will be awful.

22. Let me chime in and say I thought the Portis trade was stupid
I don't care how good Champ Bailey is. Trading away your stud RB when there is a scarcity of top-notch RBs in both the league and this year's draft is dangerous.

Besides, as good as Bailey is, there were some decent CBs available in free agency. Portis single-handedly won games. Has Champ?

25. Let me chime in
They also got an early 2nd round pick. With the NFL draft having one of the biggest talents I ever seen they are getting Champ and a good player(who can be great) for a great Running Back they got with a 2nd round pick. If they get Steven Jackson or Kevin Jones I consider Denver upgraded. Any back Denver plugged in they had success, Quintin Griffin last year, MA, and Orlandis Gary in the past. As far as I know Portis single handedly won the game at Oakland, all the other games he definately had help. The Broncos went 5 games without Plummer and went 1-4, Portis was in 4 those. He certainly didn't singlehandedly win those games. Champ can shut down one side of the field and Denver's secondary was just plain awful, now with the additions of him and John Lynch I consider Denver's secondary very solid. But with a back like Steven Jackson, Tatum Bell, or Kevin Jones I consider the team very upgraded. I heard that Steven Jackson was a guy Mike Shannohan really coveted.

27. But can they get him?
Detroit and Dallas are hurting for RB, along with a few other teams.

This year is pretty thin for RB talent.

And Quentin Griffin is no substitute for Clinton Portis. Olandis Gary is so-so, and Mike Anderson can't carry the running game.

If they draft someone like Jackson and he succeeds, then I stand corrected.

Eli and the Mannings thought they were going to to walk into the draft room and own the place. Instead, Tillman got killed. Suddenly, real character in a person was shown, and a cry-baby spoiled jock is shown for what they really are.

73. Winslow isn't big enough to be a star NFL TE
Winslow will make catches, but he's going to get eaten alive by pro DEs. He will not be able to help block NFL DEs.

78. Is it me or is Winslow overrated
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 12:47 PM by neoteric lefty
he is a great reciever but a top 10 pick... no way! I can see that Butch Davis would want to draft someone he recruited in college but I think Winslow is a mid-first pick. Hell, he wasn't even the best TE in college last year. Ben Troupe had more production and less hassle.

76. What's with the tablecloth Roy Williams is wearing?
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 12:38 PM by mouse7
Joey Harrington has Roy Williams and Charles Rogers? Woooooow.

Lions get a mid 2nd rounder, too. That should get them a solid RB to go with Williams.

I'm not too sure but I guess b/c Mike Williams was booted out of the draft, this guy moved up and JAX definitely needs a WR.

86. I gotta wonder what the jets are gonna do.
would they go for a running back?

Then there is the 49'ers does Erickson have enough rope left and pull to pick his recruit?

I still thing the best prospect for SJ to do well is Denver. I hope they get him.

BALLOU: "How excited will you be if the Dallas Cowboys select you?"

JACKSON: "I would be extremely excited. Dallas is America's Team, and if you're an American, you've got to be a fan. I would be extremely happy because Coach Bill Parcells is a Hall of Fame coach and I would love to learn the game from him and I think he would help me for many years to come."

BALLOU: "If you do go to Dallas and you get to endorse something in Dallas, what one thing in Dallas would you like to endorse?"

JACKSON: "Cowboy boots. It would be something different. Not only does it represent the state of Texas, but it represents the Cowboys, and if you're going to be a Cowboy, you have to have a pair of spurs on."

When they dump Runyan. That's not the way to do it in the first round, IMO. McNabb could use better protection than he's had, though, so I'm holding out hope.
