I'm predicting it now...Dave Chappelle will be the next Richard Pryor
I'm watching the Best of his shows and catching a lot of skits I missed before. I'm AMAZED by how far he goes.

Please don't censor this, but he's the first comedian since Pryor who brought the N-word into common conversation. I think he'll follow the RP path and eventually stop using the word, but his recent bits on "the word all white people shouldn't use" is breaking new ground, just like Pryor did.

1. He's funny because he is shameless...

Every now and than, regardless of talent, someone comes along and says what is on everyone's mind.

I don't think any of his skits are well written or really that clever (there are a few exceptions) but the guy is just shameless and I admire that in a comedian.

I laugh my ass off at that show...

3. What? What?
Yeeeeeesssss!

I think a comedy show may show its genius in how many quotes you can make from the show...sometimes. ;-)

I'm starting to lose count on the catch-phrases that come from his show.

2. lots of comedians use the n-word
chappelle is f'ing hilarious. mrs. unblock and i saw him live in austin a few years ago. he was supposed to do just a 30-minute show at the end of a series of comics. he stayed for nearly 2 hours and even though he was not in the best of form, he was still a riot.

supposedly he didn't want to leave the stage because he was SERIOUSLY stoned (it showed, big time) and there was a cop off stage waiting to arrest him and he wanted to have a better shot at whatever drug tests they gave him....

4. As Bill Hicks said

You think drugs never did any good? Then throw out your records, because all of those artists were....STONED.

5. I like Chapelle...
... and when he is "on" he is really "on", but sometimes he is just not funny. I supposed you can say that about just about every comedian though :)

6. Was this the "WORST OF?" The stuff they didn't use?
KevSand saw that a while back and almost cried from laughing when he TOLD me about it. I caught it later and I just about died laughing at it even as I went "EW" at the lack of taste.

I agree, Chappelle is gonna be someone to watch for in the future. He's taking risks and his material has capacity to be deadly funny even as you find yourself mildly uncomfortable with the subjects...

Laura

BTW, did you guys catch that Wayne Brady sketch they did the other night? THAT was making me LMAO.

8. What annoys me is they bleep all the "naughty words" on the
Comedy Central site. I've only watched him once via satellite. Do they censor stuff there, too? I know they bleep out f*** on South Park (except when they ran the movie).

I find it more offensive to bleep out words than to just play them. :) Fuck censorship. :)

11. sorry, but I did not agree with a earlier post about about dave not
being as funny as rich. and I'm going to do the same with you. rich was rich, and dave is dave, both are brilliant as hell.

15. I don't know.
I thought this at first but then I saw some of his earlier standup and I thought it stunk. However, I haven't laughed as hard at anyone in a while as I do at the Chappell Show. I hope he can keep up the pace of creativity but I think it is a bit early to call him the next Richard Pryor.
