Anyone watching the fight tonight? |
|
Good lord this is the future of the heavyweight division? Domo Arigato Mr Klitscho have you ever seen a more robotic fighter. And I love Sanders but he is sooo out of shape that he's gonna have to put him away like now (round 3 its heating up though I must say). Its a good action fight but I worry about the future of the division. Comments please I gotta go back to the fight. Scott

2. I admire Sanders for taking all that punishment |
|
But he looked seriously out of shape. He was barely throwing a dozen punches in some of the rounds.

everything after that was a bonus and sheer heart. Its all about timing if the heavies were in such a bad state 4-5 years ago Corrie might have made out like a bandit. Scott

3. I finally won an easy bet on a fight |
|
The odds on Klitscho tonight plummeted after his brother was knocked out a few weeks ago. Made absolutely no sense, but I was happy to take advantage.
Sanders looked like he was shaping his physique to take over from Butterbean in the 4 round joke division. Nice strategy -- do nothing then launch a roundhouse wild left every minute or so.
Sanders did take a hell of a punch and surprised me with a few quick rights, but that's one matchup I would like to wager on every day for the rest of my life.

The real money in this series was on the Wlad K. vs Sanders fight (mmmm that and mayorga vs forrest I have helped me greatly in the last year or two). I had heard rumors that Corrie was not training hard but damn that was bad. I don't know what was more saddening that he came in soo out of shape or that Vitali had such a hard time putting him away (he showed a great chin in this fight but Rahman was able to hurt him much more 3-4 years ago than Vitali ever did IMO). Anyway good fight for the fans still leaves me wondering where the heavyweight savior will come from (He wasn't in the ring tonight). congrats on the bet it was a smart one. Scott

7. Thanks, but I really botched a few recent opportunities |
|
Specifically, I got too tied up in college basketball and missed that Winky Wright over Shane Moseley rout, as a 3-1 dog no less. Plus your Mayorga over Vernon Forrest gem. After watching the first bout I was confident Mayorga would bully him again, but didn't pull the trigger.
I was probably reluctant to buck Forrest after he came through for me in both bouts vs. Moseley, first time as a huge dog. That was my best and gutsiest boxing wager in years.
So many underdogs have won lately that virtually every big favorite is bet down in Las Vegas on the day of the fight. I'll be interested to see if that holds up with the Jones/Tarver bout, currently -5.00. Amazingly, the only time big money came in against Jones was his first fight with Montel Griffin, the absurd DQ defeat. I lost plenty on Jones in that fight and still can't believe it happened.

8. I wouldn't bet against Jones |
|
I'm not a big fan of his but if Tarver was ever gonna take him it was in that first bout. RJJ practically rolled out the red carpet but I could be wrong. here my best and worst 3 bets in my brief boxing betting career 1. Mayorga vs Forrest 2. Wlad vs Sanders (honestly I would have taken any puncher over Wlad) 3. Hopkins vs Tito (still for me the best night of boxing ever) Worst 1. Lennox vs Tua (what can I say I'm a sucker for punchers 2. Mayorga vs Spinks (I was an idiot the smart bet (w/ odds) was on Spinks) 3. Pacquiao vs Barrera (This one is here cause I didn't have the balls to bet for Pac Man even though I should have. Enjoy the fights :) Scott PS the Forrest vs Mosley I bet was a good one I couldn't go against Mosley at that point but man was I wrong

9. Bernard Hopkins over Trinidad made me ill |
|
Tito was hopelessly overrated, annointed as best pound for pound despite losing all the early rounds to Oscar, yet I didn't have a cent on rugged Hopkins. I still can't believe that, as a 3-1 underdog.
I was desperate for Trinidad to prevail, because it would have set up a Jones/Trinidad superfight, probably at 168 and with Jones only a meager favorite. That would have been a massive bet for me, a cinch pickup.
BTW, I cashed on Jones as a 1/4 favorite over Hopkins in the early '90s. Jones was an underdog only once, about +1.10, in the megafight with James Toney. I attended that one at the MGM with a nice wager on Jones and nearly got into a fight with Toney supporters. Jones is my favorite current boxer but at 35 years old and dependent on speed he has declined. I'm expecting another relatively close fight vs. Tarver.
Your selections are very astute. Many of my friends who specialize in betting boxing had Tua vs. Lewis.
I took Forrest vs. Moseley the first time only because an ex-boxing trainer I know watched their bout as amateurs. He insisted Moseley was intimidated and could not cope with Forrest's physical traits. How right he was!
