Serious question: Any DU Yankee fans nervous yet?
I am NOT bragging up the Red Sox here. There is too much evil history to do that, especially in April. But I'm wondering if the Yankees - 8-10 on the season, 3.5 games out, anemic team batting average, shaky pitching - have any of their fans here nervous today.

Pedro goes against the Yankees at 1:05pm EST.

2. Red Sox fan here--I put a curse on the Yankees right before the
World Series started last year. They'll never make the play-offs again until I remove the curse, which I have no intention of doing so, so you Yankees fans should be worried.

Flew out of NYC recently--all this crap about 27 (is that the right number?) World Series titles. Wish I were around 200 years from now when it's still stuck at 27!!!!!!!!!!!!

12. Thankfully..
..I won't be here to see it, Joey.

At least, I hope not.

Just the Red Sox having more championships than the Yanks would be enough to kill me!

stick around that long to see the Red Sox win another World Series.

Hope you have good health care coverage. :eyes:

19. In a few years you'll start believing in curses also...
....once your beloved Yankees bomb a few years in a row.

Seriously, I don't recall the Yankess in recent history starting out so badly. They usually start the season well, even if they're not in first place, they're not below .500.

20. Don't believe in "curses", pal
Not even the Red Sox one.

I do believe in "over enthusiastic Red Sox fans in April" though.

And they never learn. So sad. :evilfrown:

3. I'm not really a Yankee fan, but
It's a long way till September. They have a lot of talent, so I could see them coming together and turning things around.

But am still confident they will turn things around.
Heck, it's not even May yet.

I just cannot believe that a team with the likes of Jeter, A-Rod, Giambi, Bernie, Sheff, Posada, etc will not hit eventually.
But I wish they'd start soon.
And no better day than today against that punk Pedro.

But it's pitching that eventually wins in October and the Yanks pitching worries me.
The Sox pitching staff is better. Am impressed with 'Charles' Bronson Arroyo.

Maybe George can do a deal for Tim Wakefield before the season is out.

What about "Pedro Killer" Enrique Wilson for "Yankee Killer" Tim Wakefield.
Oh....and we'll throw in "Boston Killer" Jose Contreras too! }(

Go the Evil Empire!!

8. I'll bet you a dollar
that Steinbrenner pulls a massive flail before July and deals half of midtown Manhattan for the Big Unit.

10. I think you're right, Will
That's the word around town here.
That Johnson will be in pinstripes before the years out.

And by the way they're hitting, probably Bonds, Piazza and Sosa too.

6. Not really
It's a long long season...and it's unlikely the Yankee hitters ALL will continue on their anemic pace...and the front line pitching may look shaky now, but the Yankee bullpen is stronger than most.

13. All I can say is THANK GOD we didn't trade Manny for A-Rod
i think when a month after Nomar get's back his and Manny's combined total bases will already be like 3 times as much as A-Rod.

22. I'll admit as a Texas Ranger fan...
I'm feeling quite a bit of evil glee. I wasn't the least bit sad to see A-Rod go. He didn't do a damn thing for my team and I'm not surprised to see him dragging the Yankees down too. Bwahahahahaha.

16. here is why it is HUGE
Sox up and have taken 5 of 6 (so far)

it is POSSIBLE this year that the 2nd place team could NOT make the post season. Yanks/Sox play 19 games. These two teams WILL place 1st and Second (unless the O's pull off some pretty amazing magic)

winner of the series finishes #1.

17. You might be right...
With the Birds improving so much, they are going to take wins from the Sox and Yanks and that could prove pivotal as far as the Wild Card goes.

Are you saying the winner of the years Sox-Yanks series will finish on top though?
With most of the other AL East teams improving from last year, I think that's a bit of a stretch.
But it's gonna be close.....and fun!

24. My prediction
It will come down to the wire.....another game seven....just like last year.
This is the report from the "to yet be played" game.

ESPN, New York: Randy Johnson tonight pitched 6 and 2/3rd innings of one hit baseball to propel the New York Yankees to yet another AL championship and a meeting with the Pittsburgh Pirates in next weeks World Series.

All of the Yankees recent gains, Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza and Mark Bellhorn all homered against the Red Sox number one starter, Jose Contreras, who was acquired from the Yankees for reliever Tim Wakefield, Mark Bellhorn and Bill Mueller (Now pronounced not as "Miller" but as "Ronald Luxury Yacht") just before the July 31 trade deadline.

Wakefield, a former nemesis of the Yankees, pitched a faultless 1 and 1/3rd innings of relief before new Yankees manager, Grady Little took him out, not before asking him, of course, to be replaced by new Yankees closer, Pedro Martinez, who finished the job for the Yankees.

Martinez was summarily chaired from Yankee Stadium to tumultuous applause from adoring Yankees fans and a hug and a kiss from former Yankee bench coach, Don Zimmer.
Martinez tossed the 73 year old Zimmer to the ground, just for old times sake. There was laughter all around.

New Yankees third baseman, Mark Bellhorn, was later named Player of The Series.
It has been a remarkable season for the former Red Sock.
Obtained from Boston after the Yankees released former 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez on non-revocable waivers, Bellhorn has been a major asset for New York.
Although having only the one hit, tonights home run, in 267 at bats for the Yanks, Bellhorn walked every other at-bat, having a 100% on base percentage for the Yankees.

The final outcome was also seen as justice for former Red Sox manager Grady Little, who was mercilessly taunted and abused by Sox fans after last seasons loss in Game 7 of the ALCS.

After owner George Steinbrenner fired ex-Yankee manager Joe Torre on April 29 to replace him with the late Billy Martin, then firing Martin to re-hire Torre only to fire him in June and to then hire former Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella to only fire him two days later when he reinstated the deceased Billy Martin who he eventually fired after 48 hours.....Steinbrenner turned his attention to Little and the great man did not let him down.

Next Sunday, just before game 1 of the World Series against the Pirates, the Yankees will unveil a plaque honoring Grady Little.
Children, either under 38 years of age or under 6 foot, 3 inches tall, will also get a Mark Bellhorn BobbleHead Doll and free entry to next years "Pedro Martinez Day".

And that's my prediction

Hey, I have a lot of time on my hands today!

Oh shit! You can get your brooms out now! :evilfrown:

25. I care where the Yankees are in September, not in April. . .
as Reggie Jackson used to say, it's not when the grass is green that it matters, it's when the leaves turn brown.

Call me back then.

Meanwhile, let's light a fire up Kerry's butt and tell him to start kicking *'s balls.
