NASCAR fans show their true colors today at 'dega
In the final laps of the Aarons 499 Dale Jr was leading and Jeff Gordon makes a pass to put the nose of the car in front when the yellow flag came out.

Because Jeff was ahead he was credited with the lead. The yellow lasted until the end of the race and Gordon took the checker flag under yellow conditions. As Jeff took one more insurance lap and stopped at the start/finish line beer and beverage cans went flying onto the track with a few hitting their mark in the Gordon car. I think I even saw a couple of coolers heeved unto the track as well. Of course the booing was setting db record at a race track. As a race fan I used to make fun of World Cup Soccer fans getting out of control. I guess it wouldn't be right for me to do that any more in leau if this race.

I know ending the race under yellow is not much fun, believe me I've seen that quite a few times in my life. But I think a lot of the outrage had to do with Dale Jr., the NASCAR poster boy, allegedly getting robbed of a victory by the contemptable Jeff Gordon. So much about NASCAR fans with family values.

1. Theres a reason they don't like Jeff Gordon
It happens to be the same reason I love him! Go figure.

4. I thnk the biggest reason they don't like him is...
he's won way too much in his career. What a coincidence. Winning races is exactly why Hendrick Motorsports hired him. If they don't like him now wait until he wins his eighth Cup title, and he will too.

2. its pathetically funny
I recall when Gordon was the boy of the year. What did he do wrong, or is it the prodigy of the great racer thing? Nevermind that Dad was somewhat of an asshole and known to be a dirty driver.

3. It's the "winning is everything attitude"
Repukes shovel the idea all the time.

The NASCAR event is just an unfortunate side-effect of such evolved thinking... :eyes: </sarcasm>

12. Winning is the idea
isn't it? The overused but true quote "whoever said winning isn't everything, never won anything" comes to mind. Competiton breeds excellence is most people.

5. I think Jeff was just trying...
..."to rattle his cage a little" and missed and accidentally took the lead. The only reason I have any interest in nascar is because of Jeff Gordon and the nascar fans hatred of him. I love it when he wins. Taking it from jr like he did just makes it better. Anyone care to speculate what would have happenend had jr done it to Jeff?

6. They have already cheered Gordon when he crashed hard
That came as a complete shock to me when they did that. People that cheer at an accident should do some serious soul searching if not get professional help. I mean, the guy could have been seriously hurt.

9. Last summer I worked at the Nashville Speedway...
... and there is a big difference between nascar fans and indy car fans. Like indy fans are still sober when the race ends. I don't know why Gordon stays in nascar anyway. He is the only one in nascar who could make it on another circuit. He is probably good enough for formula 1.

7. Too easy
They would have cheered.

There are two types of people who like Nascar here in my part of Virigina. THose who like Nascar, and those who are fans of Jeff Gordon. The Nascar fans most repeated saying is "Jeff Gordon is a fag!" They love it when he does poorly, and foam at the mouth with glee when he wrecks. I do not understand the hatred, except for maybe he's not a redneck.

Some have tried to explain the hatred by calling him a crybaby. Saying he whines when other drivers are dirty towards him. But that explanation falls on deaf ears when these same people cheer on the neanderthals who physically attack drivers for supposed dirty tricks.

10. Out of Hand .... Please
When Soccer fans get out of hand - people die! These fans were throwing cans and coolers onto the track at white boys in helmets driving cars with steel cages going slow (for them). Big Deal

They paid lots of money to see a race not a parade - and face it, 50% or more are only there to see the crashes. And the Nascar boys wussed out and held the race - hell, they wanted flipping cars, spraying parts, and some action. Heck if someone dies - they get another sticker memorial for the pick-up window! Now all they have to look foward to is their next mullet cut.

11. NASCAR fans actually hate anyone who wins too much
The late, great Dale Earnhardt, beloved even in death--when was the last time you saw an Alan Kulwicki or Davey Allison sticker?--was the man you loved to hate when he was winning frequently. They called him Ironhead and threw things at his car when he wins.

NASCAR fans will remember Earnhardt's Bristol win when he bumped Terry Labonte on the last lap. The Tennessee State Police were called in after that one--the cops took Earnhardt and his crew to the airport in police cars for their own protection. The fans were fuckin' pissed, man.

The fan's ideal would be for each race to be won by a different driver. Since that won't happen, any driver who wins more than a couple a year after he's been in the game for a few years is fair game.

So what you saw today is less a function of Gordon's contemptibility or lack thereof, than the fact that he's a Nextel Cup driver who wins races with some frequency. Earnhardt gained his greatest popularity in the year he didn't win one race.

I figure that in five years or so, they'll start throwing Miller Lite cans at the 8 when he wins a race. They'll never throw things at the 15; the first time that guy ever won a race was the 2001 Daytona 500, and he only seems capable of winning at Daytona and Talladega.

13. bad bad BAD showing for NASCAR fans!
that was awful! I know how people can get upset at a race or some other sporting event. but you NEVER, NEVER, NEVER throw stuff out on a field, court, and especially a race track. That's just a s bad as the infamous soccer riots anf fotball postgame celebration s tat get out of hand.

15. Didin't know much about NASCAR
So I asked a friend to explain the fans to me.

He said: "There are two kinds of NASCAR fans, those who like Jeff Gordon and those who hate him. Generally, the ones that like him are sane "
