There is a house in New Orleans

They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

1. We stayed there!
It became the Hotel Villa Convento (and no--I am NOT making up the name!) and I stayed there a few years ago. When I booked the room, I had no idea that it had been a whorehouse.

Imagine my surprise when we took a carriage tour of the French Quarter and the driver pointed to the wrought iron Rising Sun decoration on the top of the hotel and explained that the building had been the old House of the Rising Sun bordello!

It took some time to live THAT one down!

7. You should see the website for them now!
Be prepared for the midi file of The House of the Rising Sun that plays, however...

http://www.villaconvento.com/

We did take pictures, and I will admit that the hotel choice DID add to the quality of the trip!
