is to post anything about abortion or religion - those threads never seem to end.

Or something completely partisan in the I/P - but it's not really fun for the faint hearted down there!

But I've noticed if I post an opinion that is not in line with liberal orthodoxy, I get lots of replies. :)

16. just joking.
I guess I could put a avatar of Bear Bryant on my post. When I went to school in Mississippi that was enough to start a riot.

7. You know why? Because DU is a cliquey place - not in a bad way
Ya see, when I'm crusing GD or the Lounge.. many times I look for the post of people I know. So, I'll scan the names and see say, Gopis evil and click on that post. You're new here...so you don't know many folks yet. Once you do, you'll get lots of repsonse.

Course I could be wrng.

9. Post something controversial.
Or something that centers on other people's likes and dislikes. People love to talk about themselves.

13. Do you mean posts or threads?
It's a good idea to keep threads kicked, though there've been a couple I really worked hard on and basically ended up talking only to myself. I'm sure there must be a psychoogical term for this; but I don't know what it is.

As far as posts within someone else's thread, there's not much you can do other than whine. Want some music fo the pity party? :nopity:

24. Kick your threads...
As to posts, I have the same problem. The only thing I can suggest is that when people DO reply to your threads, respond to their reply.

My observation has been that people who reply to "What's your favorite _____" posts are more interested in relating their feelings than they are in responding to others' feelings.

You should understand, however, that this doesn't mean your reply hasn't been read and appreciated. In the real world, when someone offers a well-thought opinion, the listener can indicate his appreciation with a mere nod of the head or a smile or a "mmmhmm".

In cyberspace it takes much longer, and thus the most clever posts often go unacknowledged.

 You're not alone!

19. Well its better than being a thread killer like I am .
I have killed more threads than I can imagine but I still continue to post . I am still new here myself . I only have around 680 something posts . Registered in 0ctober 2003 , normally someone would be around 1000+ posts by that time but not I . Despite it all , I see a lot of great people in the DU Lounge . Give it time , get comfy , you will have friends before you know it . Hey count me as one :)

20. nah, neither a whiner nor a loser
Some things just don't get folks' attention. I started a new thread similar to one I put up a month or so ago. That one was very popular -- the new one? No hits yet. But I expect that today; everyone's checking in to see the march photos.

Hang in there, ashling. :hi:
