Eeeep! A night in the emergency room.....
there we were, minding our own business. The BF and I decide to go in the hot tub. Fun was had by all.

He steps out of the hot tub, walks into my kitchen and collapses, hitting his face on the kitchen sink counter on the way down.

I'm flabbergasted... he's young (38) and healthy. But he just dropped like a rock. I called 911 and they couldn't have been nicer. The bf revived, but was confused. They took him by ambulance to the hospital and I followed.

Got there... he needed 14 stitches in his right cheek - it was split wide open.

No known reason for the collapse other than "it happens sometimes". He fainted once before, 15 years ago, also, after a hot tub. They said sometimes a person's blood pressure just drops drastically... they think that's what happened to my honey.

It sure was scary....

2. Sorry to hear
At first because you said you got out of the hot tub, i thought the fall was because it was wet on the floor. Fainting for no reason is scary. I knew someone that had that problem as well. OUCH!

3. if your blood pressure goes too low,
whether from medication or other causes, you pass out.
might be a good idea to start monitoring his bp regularly.

4. It was the Hot Tub.
Some of my family tend to faint if their BP gets too low. Hot tubs can bring this on.

It's not a big problem and he's probably better off with low bp than if it were high. He should just sit for a few minutes after he gets out of the hot tub (or sauna, or whatever) to let his temp and bp return to normal.

5. Tell your BF to stay away from hot tubs, steamrooms and saunas.
I know from experience that I cannot tolerate any of these; I end up fainting. BTW, I have low blood pressure and "been a fainter from way back."

6. thanks...
the doctors said if he does use the hot tub, to sit down for a few minutes after he comes out and dry off that way.

It was scary, I'll tell ya that! He whacked his face real good. Luckily, he didn't bruise up - I would've sworn he'd have a huge shiner.

Poor guy... he's hurt and embarrassed.

7. Very scary.
I am really glad that he...and you are okay. Did they run the full battery of tests? I'll be thinking of you and hoping that he is okay. Take care,

9. yeah....
they checked his heart and all his neurological responses. They said it was just a sudden drop in blood pressure (he has naturally low BP anyway) caused by the hot tub.

It was scary, though. I've never had to call an ambulance before. I'm glad I did, though, even though he kept saying NO!

The EMT's couldn't have been nicer and they all reassured me I did the right thing.

12. well I think he's embarrassed by the whole thing...
he's naturally shy. He WAS grateful I got some clothes on him before they arrived, though :)

But I saw him smack his head on the counter and didn't want to take any chances.

13. I'll bet. Could you imagine if they picked him for the TLC Emergency
program. He would have killed you! I bet he'll have a humdinger of a headache tomorrow, poor guy.

8. Glad you're *both* ok.
(Jeez, my first reaction was: Oh no... the racoon has finally gone psycho on you!)

14 stitches, ow...give him a hug and a smootch from all of us! :hi:

10. lol...
my brother said the same exact thing. I told him we had some "drama" the other night, and I said we'd just gotten out of the hot tub and were drying off in the kitchen and he interrupted with "and you were attacked by a raccoon!"

Heheh... I can't believe you guys remember my stupid lounge posts...

14. It's easy...
to remember a post like that when you live in the center of SF and a raccoon pokes his head in through the patio door (holding a little toy gun trying to steal the See's Chocolates). Never thought I'd see that! That's a true story...(well, I made up the little toy gun part).

So, new rule for your house...no solo hot-tubbing.

And vitamin 'e' oil is great for the skin, once the stitches are out.

Take care...;)

16. heheh...
Yes, I used to live in SF and saw raccoons all the time. People think they're rural critters, but they ain't!

Now I live in Santa Cruz, right in town, and it's like a friggin' raccoon convention around here.
