At least seven Northwest Side high school students were taken to area hospitals Thursday after feeling faint and queasy during a graphic talk by a survivor of a drunk-driving crash, school officials said.
The students from St. Patrick High School, 5900 W. Belmont Ave., were later treated and released.
"They were dropping like flies in the gym," said Brother Konrad Diebold, school president. "I saw one of them throwing up in a bucket."
As many as 15 students at the all-boys school passed out while crash survivor Marti Belluschi described injuries, which required facial reconstruction, to nearly 1,000 students.
"I nearly vomited a few times listening to her," said Danny Bowery, 14, a freshman who returned to school after going to the hospital. "Definitely, I got her message."
Witnesses said air circulation in the gym was fine. Windows were open and fans were on, they said.
