On "Modern Marvels," on the History Channel they are looking at all the toys us audiophiles drool over.
CD's, digital cameras, and now MP3 players.

Audiophiles drool over AUDIO - real life "damn I can't believe music can sound that good" two channel audio. Tube amps, pre-amps that are as quiet as churchmouses, custom power cords, etc.
Any true old-time audiophile would throw an MP3 player in the trash. The "newer" guys are a bit more accepting, but whadda they know? They think they invented 5 channel surround sound - does the term "Quad" ring a bell?
Whew - rant over. :)

MP3? Audiophile? LOL
Audiophiles are using class A tube preamps & power amps, tri-amping, ribbon tweeters, and vinyl. Plus any CD player aproaching "audiophile" status has tube preamps too.
Tubes are getting short in supply.... prices going waaayyy up.
