How Do I register a domain name?
I'm looking into registering a couple of domain names so I own them and can put whatever I want on there. How do I go about this? I want any variation of bbschool.com or bbschool.net

Once I get it registered how do I put stuff on the site?

Thanks

1. bbschool is taken
The hardest part is finding an untaken domain.

There are many domain registrars. Most have a domain search tool that will tell you if your desired domain is taken already.

Start here:

http://www.dotster.com

Dotster may not be the best anymore, but I still use them.

2. Check these places:
verio.com
register.com
netsol.com
dotster.com
domains.yahoo.com

Check availability at allwhois.com and network-tools.com.

Register the domain name. Then look for hosting.

3. To put the stuff on a site...
You need to find a good hosting company. You upload your files to their servers.

In general, it's not a good idea to host your site with the company you use to register your domain.

A good hosting company is hard to find. The exact one you should use depends on the size of your site, the anticipated traffic, your budget and needs...

I've been with the same host for five years now, so I haven't shopped any lately. There are sites that help you find a good host. Maybe somebody here can provide a link.

5. I host my site at
Arishost. http://www.arishost.com/

Thirty bucks to register your domain name and that includes the first years hosting.
Thirty bucks a year after that and their service is excellent.
Can actually talk to someone there about any problems via their website in a matter of seconds.

I highly recommend them.

4. I would start by taking some computer courses
"Once I get it registered how do I put stuff on the site?" if you have to ask, you will need some education.
