Write a letter to the editor. don't do that, but do send emails as requested by a wealth of progressive sites and call my legislators regularly

Be a mentor to a at-risk child. nice suggestion, but i don't like kids

i already own 3 dogs and a cat, i fear my "pack" would grow exponentially if i spent any time at a shelter
