i'm an avid poker pLayer (every wednesday night) and my circLe pLays every poker game imaginabLe, incLuding many we invented (i assume).
any other pLayers here? what games do you pLay, and do you have any wacky ones to add to this thread?
some exampLes:
unsane - 7 card stud. red 5, red 7, & red 9 are wiLd if they are in the hoLe. red 5's, 7's and 9's knock you out of the game if you receive them up.
dead nana - cincinnati version (5 in hand, 5 common) of spLit the pot games. best hand takes haLf the pot. the other haLf is taken by the pLayer who hoLds the Lowest down card of a suit that matches the middLe common card (3rd one fLipped - it's the dead nana).* * there are 3 other versions of this game - "Live nana", "joe moakLey" & "whitey buLger". pretty much the same game, but different standard for the suit matching spLit.
on the rag - 7 card stud - red 3's & red 4's are wiLd.

1. you guys are gamblers, not poker players |
|
either that are you are all REALLY good at mental math.
with so many wilds (and variations thereof to keep track of), relative value ranking of hands would make it very hard. and if you're bluffing not knowing what you have, it's not a bluff, it's a gamble.

just saying, it removes the nuiance from poker and turns it into random betting.
That said, being random everyone in the end wins about the same amount. Not what real poker players are looking for.
Not saying your game is in any way wrong or you should change tho. Have fun, man.

14. I'm sorry, but it reminds me of the |

walk of that black girl in Americas Next Top-Model. It was her "signature" walk too.
Quite frankly, seeing people write like that makes me not take them very serious. Why is it so hard to write correctly?

Its 3 card poker, 3 of a kind being the highest, st flush 2nd, and so on. You also deal the pot a hand. Each player judges whether they have the "guts" to play the hand. If they do have guts, they play any and all other players who stay in. If no one else stays in, they play the pot. If you win against another player, he pays you the amount in the pot. If you win against the pot, you take it. If you lose to the pot, you pay the pot the same amount and the deal starts over. No action hands usually call for "sweetening" the pot. It can get expensive, quickly.

10. we caLL it "bin Laden" or "bing" |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 09:58 AM by sniffa
it's guts, but with wiLds (usuaLLy). deaL 3 cards, say 7's are wiLd, and you hafta pass 1 card to the Left.
and we onLy deaL the pot hand if one person stays in (so we don't deaL it every hand, onLy when needed). the pot hand represents 'bing'. bing doesn't win too often but when he does, it's often a crushing bLow.

Hold 'Em and straight up 7-card stud, but I like to throw a little "indian poker" in as well. (Is "indian poker" un-PC? Is there a new name for it?)
Oh, and in case you're not familiar with that name, it's the one where you put your one card on your forehead so everyone but you gets to see it.

12. "roLL your own omaha" |
|
roLL your own omaha - 7 stud game. pLayer receives aLL cards down and chooses which one to "roLL over" in each round of betting.
ie: receive 3 down cards; roLL one over for the stud game. next betting round, receive another down card and choose which of the now 3 down cards gets roLLed.
your Lowest card in the hoLe is wiLd, so the strategy (or guesswork) picks up quickLy. any pairs (or better, trips) shouLd be isoLated as your Lowest hoLe card - giving yourseLf muLtipLe wiLds.
'fifth street' or the Last card received in 7 card, is the tricky one. if you hoLd a pair of 7's as your down cards you have 2 wiLd's (in addition to whatever is up). if you receive a 5 (or anything Lower than a 7) you're 2 wiLds just became a buncha crap. so pLayers have the option of buying the Last card up to guarantee your wiLds wiLL not change. cost of the Last card up = 4xante

16. used to play all kinds of stupid games in college. |
|
sigh.
Anyway--Two-twentytwo: first card dealt is in the hole. From then on they're up. Value of Face cards=1/2. Ace=1 or 11. try to get two or twenty two. Go low or go high. Or BOTH. You can stand pat or take a card as it goes around the table. Betting rounds end when no one takes a card. So, if you got a two dealt in the hole you can sit there smugly while money gets shovelled into the pot. High and low guys split the pot at the end. Ties you gotta split with the other guy, too. I once won going low with an eight, other guy sitting it out low had 3, but lost his nerve.
It's a stupid game.
Three thirty-three is just as stupid, the pots are bigger though.
Then there's 'In Between.' Pure gambling. A hefty ante for all to start. It goes around the table with two cards layed down face up. They player who has the turn can bet any amount up to the value of the pot based on how they think their chances are at getting the next card 'in between' the cards showing. If the card dealt is outside the two laying down, you pay. In between you win, of course. If the card is the same value of one of the cards layed down, YOU GET DOUBLED UP.
So, once I had duece-Ace dealt to me. The pot was about twenty bucks. I bet 'POT', naturally. It doesn't get any better looking than that.
Of course I got doubled up with an Ace. That was the end of that night's fun.

17. We play the same game, |
|
but play 5 1/2-21 or 7-27. 7-27's fun because you can take both sides of the pot with an ace or two.

I've played a LOT of poker over the years, and this is exactly why I won't play in a home game. Can't stand that weird stuff - it's a card game, but it ain't poker.
