Failed EBay Bidder Threatens Woman With Gun Over Band Uniforms - Arrested
<snip>

A Town of Poughkeepsie woman was crying last July 3 when she told police a man had barged into her house, threatened her with a gun and asked her about some used band uniforms her husband had bought on an Internet auction site.

That was the testimony Monday from a former town detective who interviewed the woman and later arrested Gerald Newburger, the man accused of invading her Spring Road home.

''A female subject told us she had been accosted by a subject with a weapon,'' retired Det. Frederick Jankowski testified Monday in Dutchess County Court.

Jankowski said it took him and two uniformed officers several minutes to calm the woman down so they could gather information about the man she said had entered her house. He said the woman told him the man had walked into her living room, took a silver-colored handgun out of a black briefcase and pointed it at her. Then he showed her a piece of paper that contained a description of the band uniforms, Jankowski said, telling her he wanted to talk to her husband about them.
