NEW YORK (AP) -- A college student who says he spent eight months sleeping in a library basement because he couldn't afford campus housing has been relocated to a free dormitory room, New York University officials said.

The tuition at NYU is killing me too. I'm out looking for a part time job so my NYUer can party all night in the Big Apple.

1. Years ago, I visited friends at MIT
and they claimed that some students lived in obscure corners of a library that was open 24 hours.

I didn't believe them, but we went over there, and in one dark corner, there was a carrel with a rolled-up sleeping bag and a shaving kit under the chair.

basically homeless last semester and during the summer 2003 term. My friend did the couch surfing thing...staying at friends' houses/apartments/dorms for a few days at a time. I think she was finally able to find stable housing this semester.

My friend is one of the only working class people in her program. Some of the other kids, assuming all Americans are rich, give her a hard time for not having a savings account. She gives them the what for when they make assumptions about her. I think she has been an asset to the program because there are people in her program who have never had a relationship with a working class person on a peer to peer level. Most of the kids (she's 40) she's in class with are in their early to mid 20s and come from wealthy families.

It cost her $50K to go to school this year. I hope it was worth it to her and that she is able to get a job. In addition to working on a master's degree she worked almost full time.
