4. It Depends
If I have some crazed type-A aggressive driver riding my bumper, I speed up to go through the yellow light. If I can safely stop, that's what I do.

8. You must be from Nashville...
...after all a red light in Nashville means "only three more cars."

21. No, I Grew Up Close To Knoxville
and now I live in southern Maryland and commute to Washington, DC. Drivers in the DC metropolitan area are the worst I've seen anywhere. There are too many cars, too little roadway to support them, and too many egotistical people who think they are more important than the people in the other automobiles around them.

6. Speed up, mostly
I don't want to get rear-ended! I'm always amazed when I go through a light that turns red before crossing the intersection, and I see two or more cars go through behind me . . .

7. I did watch you. I watched you very carefully.
Red light, stop.
Green light, go.
Yellow light, go very fast.

9. I simply drive steadily.
If the light is going to turn red before I get there at my current speed, I stop. If the light is not going to turn red, I go through it.

I do, however, speed up at GREEN lights I sense are about to turn yellow. ;)

16. me too!
my inclination is to stop, and since I typically drive slow, I don't get a lot of people behind me for very long; helps alleviate the potential rear-enders.

11. In Australia and Britain...
..I'd slow up and stop.

Here in the US, I speed up because if I stop, some one will rear-end me.
People tail-gate so badly here.

12. This is how my accident was caused.
As for as I understand, the driver of my car was speeding up to get through a yellow light before it turned red while the driver of the other car was not slowing down for her red because she thought it would be green by the time she got there. 2 people wanted to save 40 seconds, and I think most of us know how much I paid for it.

It's illegal to accelerate through a yellow light. If you're a driver who does this, please stop it.

14. Not funny.
I'm sorry. But driving is just nothing to joke about, especially when the joke refers to an actual unsafe practice. I wish every person who drives would really think every time they get in the car, that they have people's lives in their hands.

every year because we neither learn nor obey the simple LAWS that govern our roads. don't you just love the 'might get rearended'? ratioanality.think about it scofflaws-would it be better to get rear-ended where chance of injury is very slim and you are not liable than to run over a pedestrian, or t-bone a car when you can be sued for everything you got. THINK

I have no sense of humor when it comes to driving. But not only did I lose a baby and have to re-learn to walk because of stupid driving, and not only do I still have pain everyday and still can't do things I used to be able to do, but also I see people roll through or flat out run the stop sign in front of my house several times a day. Lots of kids play on this street. It's just ridiculous. People take driving so casually. Maybe they run the same stop sign or speed up through the same yellow light a million times and nothing happens so they think nothing of it, but one time they're going to kill someones daughter, son, mom, dad, sister, lover, spouse. And for what? To save 30 seconds to a minute? To avoid having to think? People make jokes like "Yellow means go really fast" but all I hear is "I risked your life and the life of every person you love today and I think it's a laugh riot." I think it should be much harder to get and much easier to lose permission to drive.

</rant>

Thanks again for taking this seriously.
