Debating the purchase of an Ipod..... |
|
So I'm definitely going take the plunge and purchase an Ipod. My only point of contention is if I bother going for the full 40 gig one. I have every piece of music I own in other forms on an external hard drive linked to my computer. It's 60 gigs worth of music. So my quandry is that since even the 40 gig one won't hold all my music do I then just go for the cheaper 15 or 20 gig one and just have to swap music somewhat more frequently? Or do I just make the larger investment and then have another back up for most of my music?

1. I got a 40 gig iPod... |
|
...thinking I would just put all the music I have on it. Like you, I could easily fill the whole disk. Well, what's happened is that without really thinking about it I've become a little picky about what I put on the iPod. I'm a long way from filling it, but there are still many days' worth of tunes on it. A lot of stuff remains on other media, probably never to be listened to again. My favorite music is on the iPod. So basically it has served as a screening tool to help me sort through and prioritize my stuff. I could probably get by with a smaller iPod, but the remaining blank space is sort of an inspiration to go and explore stuff I haven't heard to find new tunes to load. I recommend the 40 gig version.

2. Early adopter here...I got the 20 gig awhile back, and |
|
have not regretted it.
There is so much you can put on it. I download Democracy Now! shows and listen to them at work. The same with Flashpoints.
I also have some music on it. It sure beats schlepping a bunch of CDs around that's for sure.
I read somewhere that when purchasing a new computer or any technology it is best, if you can afford it, to buy more than what you need because that way the equipment will not become obsolete as quickly.
