I have a problem with my home network. As of last Sunday night I've been unable to get on the internet on my pc. I have my machine hooked up to a Linksys Broadband router along with 3 other machines. There are 4 machines in total hooked up to this router, 2 can log on 2 can't. If I bypass the router and plug in the cable from the cable modem directly into my PC it works just fine. I replaced the NIC card and the problem continues. What can I do, this is driving me nuts.

1. Do the link lights work on the disconnected machines? 2. Do you have the machines set up as DHCP clients? 3. What did you do before the machines went offline? Install something? Change configs? 4. What OSs are you using on the machines?

I still don't know what the problem was but the wife ended up setting up a static IP. There was something somewhere in the machine that wouldn't allow setting up an IP dynamically. At least I didn't go out and buy a router for nothing.

3. always check physical layer first |
|
1. check all the cables 2. replace the cable between the non-connecting computer and the router 3. reboot the router (disconnect power cord and count to 20) 4. Check port on NIC card in computer, is the cable properly seated? 5. Check NIC card in computer (software diagnostic) 6. Check port forwarding on router

Where sometimes it can mess up your winsock stack, especially if you uninstall it. It kept me from renewing my dhcp address, and I had to manually rebuild my winsock in the registry....even a reinstalling windows didn't work.
Don't know if that's your problem, though, about a million things can cause that with Windoze.
