Please help a computer-illiterate dolt
When I click right to save a picture, on my home computer I have choices in the dropdown menu as to format. However, at work when I try, even when attempting to save a .gif or .jpg, the ONLY option the computer gives me is to save it as a bitmap, which does me no good. How the bleep do I bleeping change this unbleepingacceptable bleeping situation?

As a newbie I've tried to get the feel of the place without posting threads (this is my first, actually), I apologize for bothering people with this, but this is work-related and I don't want to let on that I may be underqualified for the job I just snowed my way into by asking a question which I'm sure has at least half of you shaking your heads and laughing.

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional and MSIE 6.0 (as opposed to Win95 at home, which lets me save freaking .gifs as .gifs and .jpgs as .jpgs). Many thanks in advance for any answers.

1. just a guess
What program are you saving it to?

Might be that the program you're saving it to only supports .bmp.

Try saving to Photoshop or another program that you're SURE supports .gif, .jpeg, etc.

BTW, I have snowed my way into many a job and never regretted it.

2. Try this
On the IE tool bar, click on Tools>Internet Options.
Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files.
Click OK and try to download a picture.

4. There are shareware/freeware converter programs out there
Here's one: http://www.bykeyword.com/downloads/software-0/download-962.html

... though I haven't used it. I have several photo editing programs on my computer, so if I had saved something in Paint (pbrush.exe) that could only be saved as a bitmap... I would save it then open it in the other program, then save as jpg or gif.

Otherwise, if there are no other graphic programs on your PC, search around the web to see if there are some simple shareware programs, or try the one above.

5. Another Bill C got it, thanks to all
I am not allowed to download freeware / shareware without written permission, so the other suggestions, good as they were, were inpossible.

I really appreciate all of your help.

BTW, does anyone (Bill C?) know why temp files would restrict my format options? What the hell did the goober who had this desk before me do to this machine?

8. Nice of you to say, but there are really times where
I feel like I'm in over my head.

For the record, my predecessor was fired for downloading ICQ after signing a policy letter promising not to. Apparently, I've already outlasted him.
