My right ankle has been sprained and broken about a dozen times. The last time (both sprained and broken) was the last straw. Four surgeries, six ounces of titanium, and a bone plug from my shin later, my lower right leg is little better than a prosthetic limb.
Besides that, I'm just too big to move well. But dammit, for the middle twenty years of my life, I was a helluva ballplayer.
Just got an email from the firm softball team -- it's starting up again for the summer and they're looking players.
If I could move better than a boulder, and run better than a fish, I might give it a try. But my softball days are over, and that makes me very sad.

Give it some thought. It's not the same as playing, but it's great to see some kids learn to love it too.

I played softball every year until a couple of years ago. Like a fool I tried sliding into third, I was safe but I turned my leg under and when I hit the bag, the third baseman fell on me. Blew out my knee, torn ligament & other damage.
I'm mostly recovered but I still get pain in that knee from time to time, especially when I think about playing softball again!
