Town Vehicle Crushes Injured Deer As Several Watch

AURORA, N.Y. -- It was a horrifying sight, even for avid deer hunter Lynette Franz.

She was one of several people who witnessed a piece of heavy construction equipment crush a deer that had been hit by car along an upstate New York road.

Franz says she thought the driver was going to use the vehicle's front lift to scoop up the injured animal. Instead, she watched in horror as the Town of Aurora vehicle ran over the struggling deer. The vehicle operator then removed the carcass.

Town officials say the driver inadvertently ran over the deer while trying to maneuver the vehicle in traffic.
