Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 12:21 PM by Blue-Jay
Played by "Future Man" in Bela's band. It's an amazing thing to see live. "Future Man" is formerly known as Charles (I think) Wooten. Yep, that's Victor Wooten's brother. Victor, being the baddest-assed bass player on the planet, bar none.

Edited to add picture from Bela's website:

27. Orchestral musician.
I play clarinet in our orchestra, have been in for about 30 years. My husband plays some jazz trumpet. My oldest is majoring in percussion with an emphasis in jazz. My youngest just accepted a scholarship at UMKC to study jazz, he is a bassist. There are a lot of musical DUers. It is so fun to learn what everyone does.

32. Primarily piano but there are a bunch more
I started playing piano when I was so little I really don't even remember. Played seriously up until a couple of years into college.

I also play clarinet, flute, and was a percussionist in band in high school and college. I sing alto in a local women's chorus.

37. Piano, Guitar, Bass, Violin, & Sax
But, i'm not particularly skilled at the last two. I learned them more to understand the phrasing and note selection when i use a synth to emulate those instruments. I didn't want to play sax sounds using piano parts.

I'm trained as a jazz piano player, and played in competitions from about age 12 to 19. Got tired of that, though.

I taught myself guitar at 20, since i understood music and theory pretty darned well by then. I picked up bass out of necessity about 2 years ago. Since i play bass in the left hand on piano (thinking like a bass player), and i knew guitar for nearly 25 years by that point, i got quite competent in a big hurry. I like it, actually. I enjoy finding a way to play counterpoint bass lines to the guitars and vocals when working in a 3 piece. I don't think i'd like it as much in a larger group. In a 3 piece, you not only CAN be busy, you nearly have to be.

I also facilitate drum circles employing African, Latin and S.E. Asian percussion traditions. At the height of my study of ethnomusicology, I was proficient on about two dozen instruments. I'll betcha I'm the only DUer who's a skilled player of the bonang panerus in the Javanese gamelan!
