Why wouldn't you run for President? |
|
I had a bizarre dream that I was being interviewed on a talk show. Scary part was William F. Buckley was the interviewer. He asked me, "Why wouldn't you run for President?" It seemed like the audience was pretty friendly and wanted an honest response, so I said, "I've smoked too much pot, I've had sex with too many strangers, and I'm short".
I told this to a friend who said that should be the title of my autobiography. I said maybe I'll put it on my tombstone. But what would your response to the question be? Or would you run for President?

3. Got pregnant before I got married, |
|
And cheated on one of my exes. Unless we come a long way, those two things would be quite useful for media character-bashing. Never mind that I learned the value of honesty from the second, and took complete responsiblity for the first, am holding a job, providing for our family, my husband is finishing school, and I love my daughter. It's a double-edged sword. I'd get a lot of "I can identify with that" and a lot of "how irresponsible". Plus, I like to wear jeans. So there's a little more "like the average person". I do have 4 people at work who told me they'd vote for me :bounce: Oh, and I have no patience for people who are proud of their stupidity, which tends to make me a bit impatient at times. But I love teaching people! Whatd'ya think, all I need is half a billion dollars, and I'd give it a shot ;)

48. So did Ronnie Raygun... |
|
Well, I don't mean he got pregnant, since that's slightly impossible from a biological standpoint, but Nancy was pregnant when they took the trip down the aisle. And, of course, it was his second marriage, and he'd admittedly "slept around" between the two.
So, you see, what would really disqualify you would be the combination of events in your past, plus the fact that you're a liberal Democrat. With us, such "skeletons in the closet" are proof of our moral turpitude. With conservative Republicans, such things are either simply glossed over by the media, or held up as "backstory" of how the candidate repented, "found Jesus," or otherwise straightened out his or her life, which now makes them eminently qualified to pass judgement on the behavior of the rest of us...

Plus I don't care to be in the public eye. You have to like being around people, and I find it too disturbing to be around a lot of people's auras for very many hours of the day. Everybody doesn't have to be a politician, we have a lot of good people out there who do like the glad-handling and the people aspect of it all.
I think if your friends and family already know you've done drugs and had kinky sex and that you're short, it doesn't much matter if the rest of the world knows. What would bother me more is all the people trying to get stuff from me. I've never liked people pretending to be my buddy to get money or a phone number or a connection from me -- and this exchange of goodies is a large part of what politics is all about.

No naked photos though, haven't slept with many people, and I'm overall without much scandal (not without efforts to the contrary once in a great while) so maybe I'd change my mind if campaign finance reform ever takes place.

I like that my hemorhoid problems aren't page one news.
I enjoy engaging in brief, seedy relationships purely for my own amusement.
I like rollin' a doobie and -here's the clencher,- I inhale.
It would bother me on too many levels to be pleasant to an unmittigated asshole just because his country and ours have treaties and a long history, and a cold-ass bastard to an alright guy just because our countries have problems.
And possibly the number one reason: Because I'd have to socialize with and surround myself with political fuckwits and asskissers.

OD, abortion, miscarriage (both outside of marriage), that complete prick I used to date in Houston would give them a full report; the press would rip me to shreds.
Plus, I'm agnostic and unphotogenic.
If only I'd known what was coming for this country, I would have stayed pristine, gotten better grades and stayed a virgin until marriage instead of having all that fun.
