The age of disillusionment?
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 11:56 AM by boobooday
The priest-murders-nun story brought up again something I've been thinking about.

Do you think that years from now, this will be known as the time when all moral authorities lost all their moral authority?

We have:

Child molesting priests
Lying journalists
Virtue Czars with gambling addictions
Moralistic Big-Mouth Radio Hosts with drug addictions
Plagairizing historians
Steroid-pumped, cork-bat atheletes
Greedy, lying politicians
Stealing, lying businessmen
Corrupt judges

I know I'm forgetting something, but damn. I think it is time to bring back the old saw QUESTION AUTHORITY.

These people have lost their right to act as role models, or moral leaders. Most of us regular working stiffs have more integrity in our little fingers than these schmucks have in their whole bodies.

Take it back!

1. Call me cynical, but....
...none of these phenomena is unique to our time. I think they've always been there, but they haven't been exposed as such the way they are now.

Maybe that's where the disillusionment lies.

2. nothing new there
Child molesting priests - probably had those since the profession was invented

Lying journalists- same

Virtue Czars with gambling addictions- see above

Moralistic Big-Mouth Radio Hosts with drug addictions- well radio is a more recent phenomenon but...see above

Plagairizing historians - when has history ever been accurate?

Steroid-pumped, cork-bat atheletes- newish, I suppose, but I bet "majic bullets" have been a temptation forever

Greedy, lying politicians- redundant phrase

Stealing, lying businessmen - ditto

Corrupt judges - see aboves
