well I rearended a car yesterday |
|
on the way to work. I was just puttering in the middle lane on the way to work at 820 am. Jerk boy decides at last minute to pull in front of me and wham. Here in VA it is automatically the persons fault who rearends another. No one was hurt except my car. I am thankful I always carry full insurance.
Poor little car.

1. I think that's the law in any state...if you hit 'em from behind it's your |
|
fault...
sorry to hear that.

8. There are some exceptions. |
|
For instance, a few years ago I skidded on ice on the road. I was able to stop, but the guy behind me couldn't as he was skidding also. So, he rear-ended me. But the policeman didn't charge him because he saw everyone else on the road skidding on that same patch of ice. But the other driver's insurance paid for my car repair.

12. I don't know. I called the other guy's insurance company and |
|
they fixed my car. Even though he was at fault, he wasn't charged because of the road conditions.

2. Don't let anyone tell you that the law is that you're automatically |
|
at fault. You have a defense to the traffic ticket (which will be dismissed when the nut fails to show up in court) and any potential civil proceedings afterward. There are no hard and fast rules in the law. Go to court and fight it.

3. I got sideswiped a few weeks ago |

And they're calling it a no-fault. Boy, do I ever wish I had full coverage now. Never rear-ended anyone, but now that you told me that, I'll be extra careful. :hi:

I was on a four lane street at an intersection with two left turn lanes. The green arrows for the turn lane turned red but the green lights for thru traffic remained on. This guy decides he has to stop even though he had a green. The limit is 50mph and I was lucky to avoid him (No other traffic in the area). After I passed him he woke up and proceded on his way. STONED PEOPLE SHOULDN"T BE DRIVING!

7. Lost my brakes a year ago... |
|
and nailed someone when traffic backed up.
His car had a scrape on the plastic bumper, and mine lost a headlight and trashed the hood. Ins. co. says they paid him $540 to "fix" his car, and I said screw fixing mine. I could buy the parts and do it myself for $200, but it was time to get rid of it anyway.
Got sued for "back injuries" which fortunately got tossed, but insurance co. cancelled and new company is charging more than twice what the old one did.
Rearend someone, and there's pretty much no way out of it without witnesses saying the fucker backed into you. It's gonna cost you.

I hit my own car with my truck last week and caused $3,000.00 in damage. Fortunately, I have full coverage; and the insurance company waived the deductible because both vehicles are with them.

Driving on a very busy route in NJ that I drove every day. The highway has a concrete divider that only opens at intersections. All of the intersections on the Rt use jug handles and clover leafs to access the cross streets, ie: you can't make left or right turns at the actual intersection from the main road.
Anyway, we're all trolling along at about 50mph when the jerk 4 cars in front of me decides to make an illegal, un-signaled left turn! The three of us behind him slam on the brakes and plow into each other. My air bag even deployed. Since I'm the last one in the chain, I get cited. The guy who made the illegal turn took off like a bat out of hell and wasn't seen again.
I hired a lawyer, and even though the driver in front of me showed at court to back my/our story (the first guy in the chain front suffered no damage to his SUV and also took off before the cops arrived) of the guy making the illegal lane change, I still ended up paying the fine. The whole thing cost me $900 (fine & lawyer) and my car - which I owned outright - was totaled.
After that, I doubled the space I leave between the car in front of me. Now, I just get more guys cutting me off changing lanes in front of me with all the extra room!
