At least one right-wing American news anchor, Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, has been critical of Canada's embrace of two U.S. war deserters who are seeking asylum in Canada and its stand on the war, and Canada has shown up in the New York Times as well on the issue of the CRTC's refusal to allow Fox News to broadcast its 24-hour news channel in Canada. On his show recently, Mr. O'Reilly went as far as suggesting that if Canada allows the two men asylum, his show, Talking Points will call for a boycott of Canada.

There has been a lot of debate in the media recently about Fox News' attempts to establish a position in Canada. The network has come under fire from many quarters over this and we felt that we should extend a hand and welcome your network to Canada.
We believe Canada needs Fox News. We need its conservative viewpoints, its strident moral tone and its exceptional content. We need this, because sometimes we like to be mock the afflicted. And you, Bill, sure are afflicted. When we watch your flustered blustering about subjects of which you clearly have not the least bit understanding, when you try to play the Bulldog but just end up seeming like a petulant Chihuahua, when your attempts at bullying look like a fat man struggling against a high wind. In short, we find you hilarious and would love to see your show in our country.
