1. Unix System Administrator
I am a sysadmin.

I am a code monkey.

I dream of big machines.
I dream of big machines multi-processor server beasts.
I fall asleep to the soothing whirr of RAID arrays grinding in the background.
Endless lines of monotous code fill my head as I down one too many Jolts with the coffee cup still on my desk.
I hold onto the mouse like a lifeline because it is.
This is what I always wanted. This is what I got.
I am not afraid.

36. true story
in rural Texas my boyfriend and I came home from work to find the farmland completely black from a grass fire, the house and barn untouched, and empty gatorade bottles EVERYWHERE. These firemen had arrived, battled the blaze for hours in 105 degree weather, saved the house and barn, and left. Just doing their jobs. We put a thank you notice in the local paper. Freaking amazing!!!

basically, the Windows server administrator for a large public school district - about 150 servers, including the 4 Exchange servers.

Technically, I'm also in charge of all the LAN issues, but 150 servers is enough of a burden that I pawn a lot of that stuff off on the WAN manager!

I care for and pass meds to patients that are comatose, on trachs, HIV,CVA (stroke) victims, Motor vehicle accident victims... basically ones that are totally Dependant to medical care.
It get a bit depressing at time due to the fact that 90% of my patients will not get better and I will watch half of which die. But there are a few rehab cases that do improve and get to leave with a pulse, and that makes it all worth it.
