Ugh! Doggyfarts! Please help!
Can dogs take Maalox?

Wolfy's emissions make the sewage treatment facility smell like honeysuckle!

1. I'll put Leon's stank ass up against Wolfy's any day.
We find the gas dies down when we don't change his food. We can also always tell when we've had guests who feed him scraps because he smells like a slaughterhouse the next day. x(

11. Is Leon the dog
in your avitar? A Boxer? No wonder. I took care of a stray Boxer for 4 months before her owners came home from their vacation to discover she was missing. Man, she could make my horse barn clear out. Me, the horses and the cats, outta there!

13. I forgot about his food...
I accidentally bought a different style; but I figured since it was the same brand, it wouldn't matter...

2. Switch to a dogfood that doesn't have milk products
Iams or Purina helped my dog's problem a lot! If that doesn't work try putting Beano on the food.

4. Is he on any medication?
Our big old guy had that problem with chew-able Rimadyl. Otherwise call your vet. He didn't eat anything he shouldn't have, did he?

Good luck, that stuff can clear out the house. :D

7. I think it's because of his food...
I give him a can of Pedigree in the morning. I usually get the "traditional ground dinner", but I accidentally picked up a couple of cans of "choice cuts in sauce" from the store. That's gotta be the culprit! :nuke:

12. "wellness" makes a very very good pure dog food that doesn't cause
gas.

Not cheap, but so good for the doggies.

18. What makes a dog food "good"?
I've always wondered.

I'll see if they have the Wellness brand at the PetsMart. Haven't heard of it before.

23. Also, consistency is very important.
Some dogs don't handle a "varied" diet very well.

8. Here's some advice
Q: What can I do to stop my dog from passing gas?
I have a 4-year-old deaf Dalmatian. She is house-trained, and actually a good dog. Problem is, she farts. I don't mean a small one every now and then. I am saying she does this 20 times a day, loud, and very smelly. Air fresheners don't even cover them up. Is this normal and is there anything I can give her to help with the frequency and especially the smell? – Christina, Lynchburg, Ohio

A: I see, an air quality problem! The flatulence is caused by the digestion of the food and the interaction of the intestinal flora (bacteria) that live in the gut. I would certainly try a different food. Some dogs don't digest certain foods as well as others. Start with premium-quality dog foods. If that doesn't help, consider looking in the literature for dog-food recipes.

14. I hear your cry for help -
First thing you gotta do is to elevate your dog's dish so that he doesn't swallow so much air when eating. This makes a HUGE difference. Second, quit feeding him Pedigree - that stuff will kill him. Eukanuba makes a reduced-fat chow that will help, and start using premium canned food.

I know it's more expensive, but you'll end up saving in vet bills and how much is clean, breathable air really worth to you?

15. Thanks for the advice!
I had no idea about the dish. He's a border collie mix, so he's got pretty long legs.

I never had any trouble with the "traditional" formula; but I'll check out the Eukanuba, too!

20. No solutions, just reminds me of a story...
Our hero was a very young guy on a first date. So young, he ate Mexican before going over to the girl's house.

Sitting by the fireplace, petting the dog, he was nervously talking to the parents when he felt the rising gasses within him. Desperately holding it all in, he finally let out a silent but deadly. A few moments later, the father snapped, "Rover!"

"Ahhh..." he thought, "they're blaming it on the dog." And he let off another noxious release.

"ROVER!"

Well, as long as they're really thinking it's the dog, might as well let it all out in one mighty blast before he has to get up.

"ROVER!!!! Will you please move before this guy SHITS on you!"

25. We breed dogs
My wife has a term for this-- "paint peeling poofs of puppy flatulence" You may want to change or check their diet. We have less odor issues with pedigree.

28. What kind of pups?
I use the canned "traditional dinner" Pedigree for one meal, and Pedigree kibble in the evening. He's never had a problem with this. I'm sure his flatulence is the result of inadvertently giving him a can of "choice cuts in sauce."

He's doing much better now. :)
