F. Scott Fitzgerald fans
I bought "Tender is the Night" and "The Great Gatsby" today. Which should I read first? As a writer how do you rank him?

2. Clearly, "Gatsby"
"TITN" is good, but "Gatsby" is wonderful.

3. Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald I think is a particularly appropriate writer at this time.

The whole drama of Great Gatsby can be interpreted as a love triangle, but I prefer to interpret it as a commentary on conspicuous consumption and the interesting hypocrisy of American values and its relationship with wealth.

4. Good for you. But, first, get a biography of him, I found that I never
got his writings until I understood him better.

GG first, then TITN... and as far as rank... definately in the top 5 American writers of the 20th century.

as a tragic figure, without equal.

5. The Great Gatsby.
Tender is the Night is less engaging.

7. Great Gatsby
But I also like Tender is the Night.

However, "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" is my all-time favorite by him. Check it out in one of his short story collections. It's a classic.:-)

8. "Gatsby." It's shorter, and easier to get into.
"Tender" is also a great book, though.

9. GG is great writing, the best. But, Tender is the Night is a better story
there is a foggy, pedestrian participation one has when reading gatsby. its descriptive writing is the gem there.

but tender is the night, knowing of fitzgerald's personal life with zelda, is a profoundly personal, hearbreaking story, enveloped by great writing.

10. Definitely Gatsby...
I gave my daughter the middle name 'Jordan' Our last name is Baker. That's how much I love Gatsby. The great American novel.

..I would agree with a previous poster who recommended reading up on Fitzgerald himself before diving into his work. It adds a whole lotta meaning to the novels and stories to understand the motivations of the author.
