What breeds of dogs do DUers own?
I have a bulldog and an Australian Shepherd. My bulldog, Mr. Granger (named after the character on the British comedy "Are You Being Served") looks like a repuglican, but he's really a great dog. Beowulf, my Aussie, has the inteligence of Dubya, but we love him anyway.

If I ever owned a dog, I think I'd want a border collie, but I'd have to lead a much more active life than I do now.

an English bulldog named Althea (oddly enough, after the Grateful Dead song someone posted the lyrics to here earlier! :D) and a pug named Gomez. Because that's the best name for a pug EVER. ;)

(And just for the record, I didn't name the bulldog, as I wouldn't listen to the Grateful Dead on a bet. :P)

29. Excellent, give Riley a pat for me!!
Ours are standards.

Gee, aren't schnauzers experts at getting filthy!

Doe's Riley wipe his/her beard on you? Ours do, whenever their beard is really filthy (like when they've been in the cow paddock or horse paddock) they like to wipe themselves all over any bit of you they can get to.

They also liked doing it on a timber wall at home, but now all the walls are brick, which they aren't so into.

55. Riley is kinda prissy so he avoids getting dirty at all costs.
He is obsessed with playing fetch though. So obsessed in fact that he understands the names for all his toys (ball, bone, monkey, pig, kong, rhino, etc..). If I say "Go get the rhino" he will run all over the house until he finds it.

I'm hooked on schnauzers for life.

than Du(m)bya. Plus they were extremely sweet-natured and loyal. And they were quite capable of working for a living - another difference from W. I had mine trained to silent (hand) signals. Sadly they have both gone to that great cattle roundup in the sky. We still miss them.

63. We were in denial about his mental ability for a while, but we've decided
that he probably (no joke) has a dog version of some mental disability. He was very difficult to train, which is extremely unusual for the breed. He is the sweetest dog. My son is autistic, and honestly we have talked about whether my dog is autistic too (if that's possible). He and my son, though, have a wonderful connection. He will actually mind my son, when he appears deaf to the rest of us.

A male named Taz who is now old and cranky with separation anxiety issues and a female puppy named Crystal who loves to chase shadows and her own tail (and steal food from the table).

They both have some kind of Spaniel in them and are quite lovable, even when they drive us nuts.

Hi John, BTW

I've lived in Australia for 33 years, and we breed show dogs, and I am yet to meet anyone who has had an Australian Shepherd, or for that matter seen them. Very few have even heard of them.

Odd. Over hear, if we want an Aussie dog, it's a Kelpie or an Australian Cattle Dog (heeler).

Please give your dog a pat for me :-)

I agreed to feed her, pet her, take her to the vet, and give her the run of the house and the yard.

In return, she agreed to protect the house and family and to bring me the occasional present of a dead possum or a dead snake. And she promised not to rip my throat out as I slept.

All in all, not too bad an arrangement (although I could have done without the dead possums).

67. A gorgeous American Pit Bull Terrier, and two Bichons.....
...and I get really tired of people maligning the Pit Bull. In our house, the two Bichons are the agressive dogs, the Pit a female, believes the Bichons to be her babies.

69. A recently deceased
Doberman named Lucy (aka Lucille, Loose Wheel)
and a Border Collie/Springer Spaniel cross with 3 legs named Jean Louise Finch (aka Scout, Scout about, Scuttle Buddy)
Scout stayed with my ex. It wasn't fair to move her across the country to a city she's never known, to live in someone else's house with 2 unknown cats.
I tell myself that. It's in her best interest that she stay where she is at her age (14) but I miss her desperately.

71. Cocker Spaniel
Magic, who I rescued from the SPCA. He was heartwork positive and they were going to put him down. I took him, paid for his heartwork treatments, and he is very healthy now! He's 4 years old, black with a little white bib in front. A complete sweety and a very well-behaved and loveable dog!

93. Cocker spaniels are my breed, as well
Here's my love, Barney. He was a stud dog at a commercial kennel, and was, fortunately, rescued before they could put him down because he got too old. He is definitely the sweetest dog I have ever known. A beautiful temperament and a beautiful dog. He was rescued at age 10 or 11 and I had him for eight years.

72. 2 black labs
But I miss my dog that got hit by a car more than 2 years ago, she was half cocker and half terrier and the smartest dog I've ever known. She was just a sucker for food and the lady across the street has diabetes but likes to bake cakes so often she will bake a cake and put it out in the yard for the dogs to eat it. Idgy got hit on the way coming back.

89. Natasha absolutely LIVES for Frisbee
she likes it better than food or anything. She goes all out and you have to MAKE her stop and take a breather. She gets so high off the ground that sometimes she forgets she has to land, lol. She'll end up smashing down into the grass. She's so funny.

Thanks!

80. Two shelter adopted puppies
Both are 16 months old now.

Cindy - a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard (blue merle)

Murphy - an Australian Cattle Dog mix (red merle)

They like to herd us on our hikes. They are two of the smartest dogs I have ever had. Very affectionate with people they know and wary with strangers/other dogs. Neither one needs to be, or should be around little kids.

They play hard and sleep hard.

82. I have always had cocker spaniels
Yes, I know that this was both Nixon's and Poppy Bush's breed, but that was the dog I had as a kid, and loved, and what I was used to. However, fate stepped in. I have called twice about rescue cocker spaniels and have ended up, instead, with a tiny Brussels Griffon and a terrier mix. I have Meneken and Sara, who I love dearly. If they are yours, you do love them, despite anything.

a Miniature Schnauzer, rescued from Homeward Bound. He's lots of fun and the leader of the pack. The Poodle is sweet, smart and cuddly. Neither shed, but the grooming bills are outrageous. No, she does not have a show cut.

My husband and I are owned by five - two retired racing Greyhounds named Sam and Hex; two whippets named Ptah and Djet; and one huge Siberian Husky named Bragi. And we have my stepdaughter's Belgian Tauverian (spelling is off on this one) whose name is Freyja because the stepdaughter is living with us at the moment. All are rescues, except the Tauverian.
