Seven Arrested In YMCA Sex Ring

STAUNTON -- Authorities arrested seven men Wednesday night after accusing them of performing sex acts on one another inside the men's locker room at the YMCA on North Coalter Street, the Staunton Police Department said.

One of the men is a former aerobics instructor who taught evening classes for at least five years at the Staunton-Augusta YMCA, according to the facility's executive director.

The investigation was launched April 7 after a member reported to staff that he caught a man peering into his stall while showering. Minutes later, the suspect was reportedly seen masturbating inside the steam room, according to a police report. Staff at the YMCA immediately reported the incident to police.

Based on the suspect's description, police interviewed James Matthew Acord, 30, of 8 N. Lynnhaven Drive, Staunton. He and six others were eventually charged and arrested Wednesday night. Acord is charged with single counts of indecent exposure and obscene exhibition.
