Help Induct Todd into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
http://www.petitiononline.com/toddrund/petition.html

"This is a petition to induct Todd Rundgren into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame. Todd has been performing, producing, and recording for
over 37 years. He started his career as a musician in 1967, when he
formed The Nazz . Rundgren has since released 18 solo albums and many
albums with his band Utopia as well. He is also one of the world's
most successful and sought after record producers, working with
artists such as Meat Loaf (Bat Out of Hell) and XTC (Skylarking),
Grand Funk Railroad (We're An American Band), and Hall & Oates (War
Babies."

It's kind of a dubious honor. And I'm not even sure that Todd cares one way or the other.......

But here ya go, Todd Fans!!

2. I'm not even sure that Todd cares one way or the other.......
...either. My first reaction is that he most certainly would not.

Granted, when you're talking about "Something / Anything" and the Utopia stuff and about 50% of his total output, there are grounds to give this guy his due.

But since christening himself "TR-I," he's become a lot like Prince when he morphed into "Unpronounceable Glyph"...a "royal" pain.

I can see one of two scenarios: either he doesn't show up at the induction ceremony, or he DOES, and makes a complete ass of himself. As in everyone wanting to hear "Hello It's Me" while he insists on only playing TR-I material (like he did on a Howard Stern appearance a few years ago, which caused Stern to tear him a new one for months).

I am a fan...my name made it onto the poster that came with the "Todd" album (the result of sending in the postcard that came with "A Wizard A True Star")...but there have just been too many years of stoned diva behavior for me to care anymore.

All respect is given to people who do...it's just my personal reaction to honoring the man. This guy burned his bridges years ago.

3. Too much dross released to really consider him a legend
I like Todd and have most of his pre- TRI stuff but he's released only one great album (Something, Anything) despite putting out some great songs. Also, the Nazz had "one" great song (Open My Eyes) and really weren't all that influential and as others said, he probably doesn't really care if he gets honored one way or the other which is probably a big negative.

There are other people who meet the entry requirements that have put out work which has been much more consistant in quality who are more deserving to get in ahead of Todd IMO (Richard Thompson or Peter Gabriel for two).

4. Isn't it true that Todd has enough cred as a Producer to get in....?
Tack on songwriter and performer and he's surely worthy.

Check out the artists that TR has Produced:

Badfinger - TR produced "Baby Blue" and "Day After Day". Just being in the same studio when Baby Blue was recorded should be enough to get anyone in the RnRHoF.

Meat Loaf - "Bat Out of Hell"

Patty Smith - "Easter" and "Wave"

New York Dolls - "The New York Dolls". Jeebus, he produced "Personality Crisis" for gawdsakes.

The Psychelelic Furs - "Forever Now"

And of course, he was behind the board for XTC's masterpiece, "Skylarking".

It makes my head spin.

5. You put this in the "PLUS" column?!
Meat Loaf - "Bat Out of Hell"

On balance, I respect Rundgren.

But producing this affront to aesthetic decency would be enough to keep George Martin out.

7. It not just what I think, after all.
Just trying to be somewhat inclusive.

9. I meant to put in something about his production work in my prior post
and forgot about it totally.

I could actually see him being nominated more in the non-performer category which would honor producers as I think he has a little more cred on that end. Of course, that wouldn't make sense in the end given that more people know him as a singer vs. producer.

Ultimately with him, you'd need to nominate him under the combination of recording and production work to justify him being in the Hall of Fame but even under that criteria I still can think of others I'd put up before Todd.
