DU gay men: Don't you just hate it when...
...you meet a guy who completely rocks your world and you're talking to him and suddenly you hear,"...blah, blah, blah...MY GIRLFRIEND...blah, blah"? This is happening to me far too much. I just met an absolutely beautiful man and though I figured he was most likely straight hope springs (or rather, sprang) eternal. Sometimes the words "my girlfriend" can be two of the most bracing words in the English language. I just heard them today. Again.

3. Thanks for your sympathy.
About ten years ago this would have just ruined my weekend. I'm at the point now where I can appreciate the humor in it all. But DAMN, I wish THIS guy were nelly.

2. Had a girlfriend who loved to dance.

Gay clubs, of course, have the best music, so we'd be out in the clubs moderately frequently. Took a break one night to go grab a drink and the bartender ask "Is that your GF out there with you" Answering yes he then replyed "Ah, man...yer breaking my heart." I apologized.

Couple of my male friends have asked "weren't you upset about that?" Hell no! I like that I am sexy enough to be attractive to both sexes.

I understand how you feel though. I get the same thing occassionally, but it's when I hear the girl telling me she isn't into men. Telling her I'm not eitehr dosen't seem to help. Strange.

5. Honey...you're sexy enough...
to be attractive to statues, dead people, and little old ladies in their 90s who can't see past the end of their nose. ;)

16. Yup.
Most of us do really. They kinda look like everyone else. Ya know...kinda...normal, and very...um...normal.

4. Back in my younger days...
I found that when someone said, "My girlfriend" it never really amounted to much. Too often they were looking to get a little on the side and didn't care where they got it.

But I can sympathize. I keep running into beautiful men and they turn out to be gay.

7. It seems unrealistic...
...to expect random men that you meet to be gay. Unless of course this was at a gay bar or something.

11. I didn't expect him to be gay.
I said in my post that I figured he'd most likely be straight. However, he is someone that I find VERY attractive and in a very compelling way, so it may be unrealistic to "expect" but it was fun hoping. While it lasted.

10. How do you know he's not bi?
It totally throws people when I talk about my wife and my partner in the same sentence, or that I met her while sleeping with her boyfriend.

13. Actually, I don't know.
I just met him. Oh, and I should have mentioned this: I met him at work. He's a part time, temporary employee but still someone that I have to work with. I didn't want to broach the subject of sexual orientation at all. I just chatted with him an waited to get hit in the face with THOSE TWO WORDS. It happened today.

12. Believe me....
the words "my girlfriend" are enough to break the hearts of straight women as well, sweetie.

I empathize. Keep looking. He's out there. I promise!

17. This is very similar to the pain straight women feel
when an incredibly appealing man suddenly says, "My wife." :-(

18. Or... blah-blah-blah-my-WIFE.
At least if it's 'only' a girlfriend, there's still hope that you might be able to convert him (and win that new toaster oven... or is it an espresso machine?) anyway...

Back in the day, I used to habitually use the word "girlfriend" when I was extremely closeted and would swap genders with all my pronouns without even thinking about it.

Sorry about your disappointment, though. I hope the new month brings better prospects for you. Good luck.

21. Convert? You don't convert people
You're not going to turn a straight person gay any more than you're going to turn a gay person straight.

25. Shhhh.... you'll spoil the illusion.
It's the lure of winning free kitchen appliances (color coordinated) that helps convince some people that it's worth a try.

27. You know, people make all kinds of assumptions
about my husband and I because we *appear* to be a straight couple - but since we're both bi poly switches, nothing is automatically ruled out because we're married to one another.
