Eve Ensler's new show: "The Good Body" previewing in Seattle
If you saw (and loved,) "The Vagina Monologues", you'll know who Eve Ensler is. Her newest play is in workshops here and ends on the 3rd. "The Good Body" is a collection of stories about women who believe that they don't fit into society unless they change their bodies and their appearance.

If you're interested in reading the synopsis of the show, or discussing it, I believe we're most likely going on Monday night.

1. Okay, I'm kicking my own thread
With the numbers of anti-obesity and fat bashing threads lately, I'd be thinking that someone might be interested in discussing the play and what the playwright is trying to say...

2. Sorry, gotta plead complete ignorance on the subject,
but I thought I'd give it a kicker for you.

I'm working late on Monday, but I might be able to escape early.

4. There may be
cheap tickets on Monday night -- there's "rush" tickets at 7 PM; they're $10 if you don't mind the whole "standby" thing.

We may be doing it, too, so I'll look forward to hearing what you thought about the play!

7. Yes, I'd love to hear about it as well
I saw "Vagina Monologues" on HBO and thought it was great.

8. I don't keep up with theater anymore, but
Didn't she go to Afghanistan to write a play about Afghani women? What ever happened to that?

9. Her stuff is great
I was having a freak out moment today. Most of the time, I'm pretty confident, but times I go a bit nutty and think my breasts are too big and I look freaky (subjective I'm sure) or my tummy will never look good again after kids without some surgical alteration (but then what is "good"?), or that I can't lose the last 10 or 15 pounds I want to loose and look fatter than I am. I was talking with my daughter (she's 12) a few days ago about this very subject and we both observed it's largely us neurotic white American chicks who have these body image issues that women in other ethnic groups don't seem to have. I feel guilty for contributing to whatever I've contributing to her thinking at 5'3&1/2" and 120 pounds is too fat. Actually, I do my best to remind her that being extremely slender is not necessarily natural or healthy for most women, but the pressure from other peers at that age can begin to be overwhelming.

Anyway, another Sarah rant, but these things can hit close to home sometimes.
