Anybody seen the movie "Spellbound" - about spelling bees?

(more ranting)

I'm watching it now.

It's unbelievably racist, jingoist, sexist - I've never seen so many American flags in all my life.

:wtf: do invocations of deities accomplish? Spelling is a skill.

1. It is all of those things - yes
but it is an interesting little movie too.

2. Wow. I missed all that. I thought it was a very good documentary.
And i'm pretty sensitive about racism and sexism, though I may let the jingoism slide.

5. No , but
I must have read 20 reviews that gushed over how intriguing it is.

I don't know. Maybe the parents pushing them? I have no idea what pulled people's emotions in.

6. I don't think we saw the same movie
the one I saw featured a group of very intriguing young men and women and their parents. It was never racist, jingoistic, or sexist. The kids were genuine. The parents were honest about their own aspirations for their kids. And the teachers...the teachers were an inspiration. Good movie.

7. They've started in about home schooling
It was just a matter of time.

8. It's a wonderful movie, and your claims are representative
of hyper sensitivity. I'd ask you for evidence, but I doubt you'd convince me, since I watched the film already, and did not sense the slightest bit of jingoism, racism, or sexism.
