but the first time didn't count.
I got a letter in the mail about 2 weeks after the election saying that my vote was invalid.
I was not on the voter rolls (even though I was able to produce the card they sent me), and I had to fill out an absentee ballot.
They threw it away.

17. I voted twice - worked the campaign in 1992 |
|
I worked on the first campaign in 1992 for Bill Clinton in Prince William County, VA. (I also worked to put the first woman from the state of Virginia in Congress, Leslie Byrne). It was one of the best experiences of my life. I made canvasing phone calls, spread flyers, and worked the polls on election day.
I received tickets for the inaugural concert for my very modest efforts and my mother and I were among the crowd walking across the Memorial Bridge with candles. It was an experience my mother, a veteran of Roosevelt inaugural balls, will never forget and frequently talks about.
My first Presidential election vote was Carter, but I worked on election day for McGovern at the age of 14.

26. Another Who Voted For the Big Dog |
|
I did. I almost fell for the right-wing line of bull about "character" in the 1996 elections, then I thought about what would happen with a Republican President with a Republican-controlled Congress, and voted for Bill. In hindsight, I'm glad I voted for the Big Dog and I feel better about having voted twice for Clinton every day.

My dislike for all things Bush goes back to the '88 campaign. I must note that I was a Republican from 1981 until 1998. Clinton got my '96 vote the old-fashioned way - he EARNED it.
FWIW, it was the impeachment thing that made me switch.

49. Clinton, reluctantly Clinton, Gore, reluctantly Kerry |
|
The sacking of Dr. Elders annoyed me greatly. Little did I know how much of enabler he would turn out to be... and the repukes kept doing their best to do them in while he helped them (NAFTA, DOMA, DMCA, telecom act, welfare 'reform' that didnt' stop corporate welfare, and a truckload of other things.) Clinton did balance the bugdet, but that's not enough to completely exonerate him from everything else IMHO. Compared to Dole, and that pipsqueak Perot, Clinton was the best choice in 1996. (I don't do write-in votes, nobody's going to do anything with them and it takes away from the "second place" candidate.)
Gore was more sincere in 2000 if not a bit lax in his campaigning, and Nader did not come across just right (DUers, although overzealous, did prove what sort of slimeball Nader is in the end.)
In 2004, I vote for Kerry only because - as it currently stands - he is the most left of them all. I honestly don't know where he stands. But I know where * stands. We need him out! And most people should know what Nader is and shouldn't be dumb enough to vote for him.
My two cents.

Have always voted for the Democratic nominee going back to 1972 when I first voted. My mother and I were the ONLY votes for McGovern in Winter Springs, Florida in 1972! Would still have voted for the man!

Clinton (twice) Gore and god willing and the creek don't rise I will be there when John Forbes Kerry overthrows destiny and wins the Presidency this fall.
In the Primaries I've charted an eclectic course Voted for McGovern and Paul Tsongas.... Politically diverse in their views, but BOTH honest incorruptible men.

'92 was the first presidential election I voted in. I did vote for Carter in our elementary school mock election in 1980 -- does that count?
Also voted for Gore in 2000, so I guess I've never voted for a losing candidate.

Voting Record:
McGovern, Ford, Anderson (I regret that vote, last time I'll vote for a third party candidate), Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Clinton, Gore and will vote for Kerry.
Sure miss the Big Dog.
