Syracuse Is Snowfall Champion
<snip>

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Toss in the shovel, Buffalo. Give it up, Rochester.

Syracuse is again the snowfall champion among upstate New York's biggest cities, with just over 181 inches of snow for the season. That makes it the runaway winner of the annual Golden Snowball trophy.

Syracuse's 15 feet of snow blew away the nearest competitor -- Rochester -- by nearly five feet. Buffalo was third, 50 inches behind Syracuse.

The three cities finished in the same order last year -- when the friendly competition was revived after petering out in the mid-1990s.

Meanwhile, other upstate communities are crying foul.

2. Syracuse is the New York Yankees of snow.
Of course, there are some places in Oswego County (they used up their mid-winter break on snow days) that get hammered lots worse, but none with > 100,000 inhabitants.

3. We live about halfway btwn Rochester/Syracuse, lucky us
we live directly on the lakeshore so we get to enjoy some pretty interesting weather patterns. The previous winter when both my husband and I were unenjoyed we could sit next to the woodstove and decide whose turn it was to go get more wood. This year I had to venture out on some pretty nasty drives to Rochester for the night shift. Let's just say it builds character.

4. Good for you
I live in Toronto and we hardly ever get lake-effect snow. Normal snowfall here is 40-50" all winter. It can be damn cold and windy though.
