A five hour send off for "Friends"? - Today and Tomorrow |
|
Edited on Wed May-05-04 10:39 AM by Mike Daniels
While watching Law and Order yesterday I saw promos that indicated that NBC was going to do three hours of "Friends" related promos tonight and then stretch out the final for two hours tomorrow with a clip show and then a one hour finale.
Has any network spent this much time sending off one show? I can't remember that much network time spent building up Seinfeld's finale and given the way that episode went that was probably for the best.
Is this overkill or is this to be expected for a show of "Friends" stature? I did watch the show occasionally but it wasn't anything different or all that special in relation to other long running sitcoms or dramas.
Did this show tap into something that I'm missing or am I correct in thinking "big deal". Either way, I know I'll be avoiding NBC for the next two days.

1. I'd say that's overkill... |
|
...but then again, I don't think it's possible to kill Friends enough.

3. That's the only way I'd watch that show |
|
If the finalé promised that one of them would turn out to be a psychopath and chop the rest of them up before blowing their own head off, I would watch it.

Like Dylan in the last stanza of "Masters of War," I'm gonna watch on Thursday for one reason:
To make sure that it's dead.

They're spinning off "Joey" with Matt LeBlanc. Yuk.
How have you been since you retired as a candidate, by the way?

Missed the last Candlelight Coalition meeting this past Sunday - I'm currently "involuntarily self-employed," so my personal life has been a small bit of mayhem. But other than that, doin' okay.
Hey, you and Eyesroll should get involved in the Candlelight group. Your ideas and experience would extremely helpful.

5. Or if Joey and Ross ended up naked and in bed together... |
|
That would be the ONLY reason I'd watch it.
But I do believe there's slim chances of that happening.

13. I'd put money on Ross going psycho |
|
Seriously, that character was just a bit too tightly wound at times I could see him going on a spree if Rachel opts to go to France with their kid.
One reason I could never completely get "into" the show was that I never saw any of the characters as all that likeable. Each has one supposedly "cute" trait that would have led me to slap any friend I had in real life that acted the same way.

2. "Friends" made NBC a big pile of money. Otherwise, it was... |
|
just a sitcom. Nothing more, nothing less.

I hope the finale is a flop like so many finales before it.

14. Seriously, what suspense is remaining? |
|
You already know what happens to most of the characters at this point.
The only question is Ross and Rachel's status with each other which personally I find to be the most overworked plot line in any TV show ever produced. To this day, I'm not quite sure how that relationship became the backbone of the show to the point where viewers still give a flying f*ck as to whether these two self-involved and still emotionally immature people get together in the end.
