ever watch a euro soccer match? i remember when there were no ads on the boards surrounding the hockey rink, when bowl games were still named sugar, cotton, rose and bluebonnet. i don't really mind it actually. eventually you will see teams owned by corporations and functioning as promotional vehicles for the corporation. the pepsico anaheim angels. just you wait.

But it's not. It's about profit.

I now pay 1/10th of 1% on everything I buy in order to finance "Miller Park." This should really be "Five-County Stadium," because that's who's paying for it. I realize a penny per $10 isn't much -- but this tax even kicks in on cars. And we didn't even get to vote on it (although sports levies are more likely to pass than school referenda, of course). It was imposed by our legislature, most of whom live in counties not subject to the tax.

If all of these ads meant paying off the bonds faster and getting rid of the tax sooner, then, sure. Ads. But they don't.

My kids are going to watch footage of old baseball games from our youth, and say "Man, it looks weird with blank bases".

Just like it looks weird to me to watch and old hockey game on ESPN Classic and there are no ads on the boards surrounding the rink.

Eventually, everything is going to look like a NASCAR car.
