Cheech and Chong
Yes...I love these guys. Completely irreverent, juvenile humor, glorified drug use and outright politically incorrect.

I just re-watched a double shot of Up in Smoke and Next Movie. Many here might not get these flicks, but something about them endears me to them every time.

It could be the locations (where most movies film in overly produced locations, these flicks were literally filmed, in their backyards) it could be the pre-Reagan attitude towards pot smoking, and it could be the general lawless attitude that GOOD comedy should always have...

But I grew up on these films - and the irony was I was a cops kid! My dad and his cop buddies loved these flicks (not sure what that says...but I'll refrain from ruminating) and for their kids, this was something we all knew - a common language if you will.

Anyone else hold these films to the same high regard?

3. Never got the appeal.
As Roger Ebert said: "It's not nice to make fun of a stoner if you aren't one, and not funny if you are one."

5. Yeah my wife doesn't get it either
But then again, she was never a stoner...and she has trouble dumbing down her sense of humor...

I never have gotten tired of them, and still watch them if they're on.

11. Can't agree.
Part of the humor of the Stooges is that they just appeared the way they were. No backstory on what caused them to be that way. C&C make it pretty clear about how they got that way, and it kind of dilutes the humor for me. Same way I never thought Foster Brooks (the "lovable lush") was funny.

"...take Spanish, and get a 'B"...."

Cracks me up every time.

8. Up in Smoke
Is one of the best comedy films of all times!

Man - "Hey, don't take those man... I almost gave you the wrong shit."
Pedro - "Hey man, I already took 'em"

Let the good times roll from there! :)

10. OMG...that whole car scene in the beginning
I hadn't seen it in years and a friend had a copy in peace corps. We all lit up and went to the Peace Corps office (since they had the video player) and watched it. That whole sequence had me on the floor, unable to breathe because I was laughing so hard!

12. I agree Taverner!

First time I saw that scene I was stone cold sober and was still on the floor rolling I was laughing so hard. Those opening 15 minutes might be the funniest I have ever seen in a movie.

9. Absolutely high regard for the films and the guys.....
I had the pleasure of meeting them at some college gig back in the seventies. I was working as a sound guy on some tour (can't remember what group it was). Cheech and Chong were the opening act for that night, and since I had the monitors on auto pilot for them, my job became rolling enough doobs to get us all through the show. Heh, heh, that was great!

17. Didn't do anything for me, though post-C&C Cheech is great
Maybe because I didnt do drugs and didn't find particularly admirable or funny people who were under their influence. Maybe I'd find some humor in it now, after all these years.

22. The Three Stooges do even less for me,
so you might be right.

And I can't even remember which of the '70s arena rock groups Rush was/is...it's so hard to tell 'em apart, even when they produce decent sounds.

21. To me, their best film appearance and best sketch
Best film appearance was in "It Came From Hollywood," where they toke up watching "Reefer Madness."

Best sketch, obvious.
"Class, class...CLASS...SHUT UP!!!" :D

23. The most ironic part of the whole C&C story
Is how Stacey Keach, Paul Rubens (Pee Wee), Geraldo Rivera and C&C used to live (and party) together in LA, and at times would be in each others movies and such...

Horendo Revolver was a take off on Geraldo btw...
