Carson Kressley (Queer Eye) fun facts
Just read a small bio of him on the web.

He has degrees in Finance and Fine Arts, graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College. He's a world-class equestrian - was once on the US World Cup Equestrian team.

Who knew?

2. Really?
He's my favorite - by far the wittiest, quickest one.

Not wild about his style work, though. The best is Tom, the designer.

4. QEFTSG
He seems like the guy "in charge" of the team.

I wouldn't be surprised of QEFTSG was partially created by him.

He dresses pretty inappropriately for a man his age though....

14. I like his style work
I think he finds styles that are appropriate to the personalities and lifestyles of the hapless straight guys. And I must say the straight guys all seem to be pretty good guys to put up with some of his shenanigans! (Remember the very tall one he made carry him on his shoulders?) But I also wouldn't be surprised if directors and producers instruct him to camp it up on camera for effect.

In on-camera personality, is he my favorite? No, that would be Kyan, who seems genuinely very sensitive in helping the men deal with grooming issues. (Remember how kind and gentle he was with the guy with the toupee?)

I'd like to know a few things about the production of that show:

  • Does it all really occur within a day? How can it possibly?

  • The bit with the guys in the loft watching how the subjects use their advice--how long after the fact is that taped?

  • Who pays for all the furniture and labor?

  • How much do cosmetic companies and other manufacturers and distributors pay to have their products placed on the show?

Feel free to add to this list.

One more thing--they advertised for gay guys who needed their help. God knows I need some kind of help, but I would sooner die than let TV cameras into my hovel!

10. In other words:
He can count money, can paint, got into a couple of sororities in a big posh expensive college, and rides horses.

How does he treat people, apart from making sardonic comments when they don't live up to his standards?

11. Huh?
Why the anger?

People ASK him to come and do what he does, and he does it with wit and charm. He doesn't insult people.

He's smart, witty, and accomplished in various areas. Why does that upset you? I've never heard anything to indicate he's not a very nice guy. I just thought it was interesting that he had such accomplishments we were unaware of.

15. What anger?
I'm sure he's a great guy in person.

I'll have to watch the QEftSG show again, although the show itself shovels out the vain stereotypes so much that I have to puke.

The last I recall, they poked fun at the hetero guys they were making over. In my book, that's an insult, no matter how coyly or cutely spoken.

He is accomplished. I actually envy him. I wish everybody could be accomplished. Then we wouldn't have half the problems in this world that we do have.

He's also a celebrity. Given how everybody hears about personal details of celebrities, I tend to get desensitized to the point of cynicism. I care more about regular people than celebrities these days. The only time we hear about regular people is when they get abducted and killed. But if (s)he's a celebrity, then we have to scrutinize them at sub-microscopic detail.

19. Yes, they make fun of the guys...
but it's teasing, not insulting. It's what makes the show funny. I've never seen ONE client appear offended by anything said.

20. I used the wrong word...
I'm still an ignorant nut worthy of censure or worse for being a flaming cynic...

I meant to use the word "fraternity", not "sorority".

I had to clarify... I meant to be a cynic, not to be insulting. But don't worry, I'm still worthless. :-)

21. c'mon, Hypno...
I didn't imply any such thing.

But you did come on awfully harsh to Carson, and I didn't understand why. I thought his other accomplishments were impressive in and of themselves, and even moreso because I never heard him mention them. Not once. I like that kind of humility.

12. Got Into A Couple Of Sororities? You KNOW What Magna Cum Laude Means...
don't you?

"With Great Honor."

Phi Beta Kappa is a national honorary society, founded in 1776, membership of which is based on high academic ability.

13. I skipped over the insulting
use of the word "sorority" as applied to a gay man. I expected better of him.

16. According to the latest National Enquirer...
which I just happen to have right here....

TV catfight
JEALOUS FEUD FOR THE 'QUEER' DUDES

Interior designer, fashion maven ready to scratch each other's eyes out

<snip>

After the series' initial success, a pumped Carson told an interviewer, "It's safe to say that yes, I am the breakout star."

He landed a slew of of lucrative endorsements and other offers flooded in - but his rival was not about to be a wallflower.

"Thom is not as flash or campy cool as Carson, but is incredibly respected in the interior design field," said the insider. "He was named one of the Top 100 American Designers by House Beautiful, and he recently replace Kirstie Alley as the commercial spokesperson for Pier I Imports."

<snip>

"The feud has gotten so out of hand that producers have asked Thom and Carson to make nice before the cameras."

****************

According to the article they used to be friends but now ignore each other off-screen. *shrug* I like all of them but I get the best ideas from the designer guy and the food guy.

18. Yes...
Thom adds the most, purely on a results-oriented scale. What he does with the interior design of these people is nearly miraculous. I'm always stunned by what he does. And makes me want to hire him!!!!
