1. I don't think you can rank things this way, they aren't cumulative |
|
For example, there's probably a lot of people that would support any number of wars out of what they think is patriotism, but can't deal with killing bugs.

But it's my poll, and this is the lounge. Take it or leave it - I make no claims of scientific validity.

4. What part of "Thou shalt not kill" don't you understand? |
|
The Buddha killed a man, because it was the lesser evil. That is a good example of the threshold.

6. Considering that republicans are vermin, insects, rodents, and pests... |
|
I am compelled to say I will not kill anything. Except for antibiotics...
I suppose the vermin deserve to live, even though they strive to ruin the rest of our lives, in one form or another.

7. i'll kill a bug out of fear of it, but i hate myself for doing so |
|
because honestly, most bugs can't hurt me
I get hysterical if I kill an animal with my car; i will never fish or hunt.

10. I've never hit an animal. You must live in the sticks... |
|
How about gnats? Or is it just the bigger bugs you feel bad about?
I'd feel bad to kill a tarantula (unless I woke up with it on my neck), but not a cockroach. I can kill infinite numbers of roaches with no guilt whatsoever. Eccchh.

11. I hit a cat when I was 18 and can't forgive myself |
|
That was in Huntington Beach, CA, a suburb of L.A.
I do now live in the styx, and have killed frogs because I couldn't avoid them. They often carpet the road after a hard rain. I've almost hit squirrels, a fox, a dog, and I came pretty close to a deer once. I saw a squirrel get hit and was hysterical for ten minutes.
I feel bad about killing any bug but roaches. But I don't want to watch a roach die. I feel bad if I inadvertently step on an ant or swat a gnat & kill it rather than just waving it away. Irrational, but I can't help myself.

As far as war goes, imminent threat to either the US or an ally is sufficient. The threat has to be real and proven.
