CONFESS!!!!! Do you still have a childhood toy....
....that you keep around for sentimental reasons?

I still have my favorite stuffed animal from when I was a kid. In fact even into adulthood I would take Lobo (that was the stuffed animal's name) on trips everywhere with me. But he's so old and beatup that he sit atop my bookshelf so he doesn't lose anymore stuffing.

My dad gave brought the stuffed animal to me when I was at my first overnight camp. I had fallen off a horse (I was only 7) and had a mild concussion. When my parents came to the camp to check up on my my Dad brought me Lobo. He's been with me every since.

Edited on Wed May-19-04 09:04 AM by CarolinaPeridot
My mother bought me my Teddy Bear on the day I was born and that teddy bear has been with me everywhere and all around the world ... I would run into a burning house of fire for my teddy bear . It plays music as well :)The bear is 24 years old .

I will NEVER let go of my Etch N Sketch , never ever . I would sit and sketch all day . Do they still make Etch N Sketch(es) ?!?!?!

Yep. In China.:eyes:

So much for "Ohio Art" (the original company that produced them...)

45. We bought one for my DH's boss. He kept complaining he needed a PDA
So we got him an Etch a Sketch. Figured it was about his technical competency. (They're dilbert fans.)

It's on his desk.

2. What a sweet story
hard to give up the animals.

I gave Charlie, my stuffed dog, to my daughter. He's getting pretty beat up. Maybe it's time for Charlie to retire to the shelf too...

4. I have a Valentine's Bear
he's a big one and with red face and limbs and a white tummy and pads. I got him when I was five because I had to be in the hospital.

He's in pretty good shape, but really needs a cleaning. He looks dingy. He's 37 years old. :7 B-)

I do have a few tools left from my entry as a repairman as a 5-year-old.

The pity is that they're superior to a lot of the crap I can buy now.

6. I still have a stuffed bunny
That was given to me as a gift from an Italian uncle when I was barely finished being a toddler. Like yours, the stuffing enjoys traveling. Some of the 'plush' has worn off in places and once fluffy spots are now matted with age. He's still beautiful to me, though, and on really difficult nights he still comes down from his shelf in the closet.

8. Sadly, I don't have any childhood toys
But I did recently shell out $150 bucks on eBay to get a complete set of 1949 Child Craft books. I loved these books and pored over them daily until my mother decided I was too old for them and got rid of them around 1973 or 1974. I'm enjoying reliving the memories!

I wish I had my Mrs. Beasley doll (which my brother cruelly defaced) and my stuffed Snoopy. Sigh. I also wish I hadn't stupidly discarded my Girl Scout sash with all of the badges I worked so hard to earn. What a fool I was!

15. I still have my teddy bear & matchbox cars
I take my boys to the Matchbox national convention in Hershey each year. I buy each of them an antique car like one I had as a kid.

Then we go home and play with matchbox cars.

This years convention is in August, but in past years it would be next week - but I guess I can wait.

Ted is looking a little haggard at age 34, so he sits on a dresser out of harms way. My two year old would like to play with Ted, but he loves just a little too hard.

21. I still have Baby Dog...
she's a little stuffed dog that a friend of my family gave me the day I was born. She used to play Brahm's Lullaby but the music box inside her broke years ago. She's had her poor ears sewed back on a jillion times cause I used to carry her around by the ears. :) She sits on the bookshelf in my bedroom and I still cuddle her sometimes when I don't feel good.

22. Boxes full
I never want to get rid of my old toys. Dolls and doll furniture hand made by my uncle, stuffed animals and blankies. I have an aluminum toy tea set from the 1940's still in the box I received after my great aunt past away.

All that is not including the tons of toys my hubby and I buy for the hell of it. fighting robots, remote control cars, LOGOS, and *ashamed* Eeyore dolls.

23. No, BUT...
When I saw a local toy store had the metal 'Thunderbird' models, I bought them all and put them on display. They were the toys I always wanted and never had as a kid.

I also still own my copy of 'Starship Troopers' by Avalon Hill; it was the first wargame I ever bought back in 1977... and also AH's "War at Sea" (bought in 1978), though the box is gone and I keep it in the "Victory in the Pacific" (bought in 1980?) box.

27. But of course!
I still I have sleepy-by-baby doll I got for Xmas when I was four, which makes her a ripe old 39 years old. I even have home movies of me asleep in my grandparents bed with her that Xmas night. :) She is VERY worn, close to loosing her stuffing, but still sleeps with me at the head of my bed.

I also have my set of Nancy Drew mystery books (the old blue covers) that I will never let go of.

I am terribly sentimental about things like that which connect me to my childhood/home/family.

31. Cool site
I remember practically all of the cars before 1980. I still have a hundred or so, but I've lost far more than I've been able to keep over the years.

The best part is sharing them with my three boys.

35. Like most things in life, I guess...
you truly appreciate the things that are hard to achieve or hard to acquire.

I used to leave them at the park or leave them at friends' houses. Also, I'm told that I needed a wrecked car once when I was little, so I took the hammer to one - my mom put a quick stop to that practice, I'm sure.

When I was 5 (1972), our town was hit by a huge flood caused by Hurricane Agnes. Anyway, in the aftermath, my mom went to a flood sale of a riverside phamacist, and bought a couple of dozen matchbox cars for a dime apiece. Of course, they were muddy, but my brothers and sister and I happily washed them out.

37. His name is Arf-Arf
and he is a dog my brother (now deceased) gave me when I was born. He sits on a high shelf with a few others. We actually call them the Aldermen; they include an elephant (Isabella) and a Rex rabbit (he looks like he has on a tux and his name is Mister Nibbles Bunn) and they make all the key decisions for the stuffed animals in the room...

Of course, this is all for my baby and not me at all ;-)

My original Snoopy that I had since I was born died when I was 6. I was having my tonsils out and I think he got trapped in the bedsheets and the nurses must've thrown him away with the sheets.

But I got a new one that I've had ever since. He turns 20 this year and he's still in good shape.!!
