I've just watched Return of the King -- Ask Me Anything! |
|
But I may not answer. I am drained. What a movie! What a story! I laughed; I cried like a baby. WHAT A MOVIE! Peter Jackson, my hat's off to you! J.R.R. Tolkien, I salute you!

1. How many times did you cry, and during which particular ending? |
|
:+
I adored the entire trilogy, dbaker41. It was more than I could have ever asked for... Fellowship will always be my favorite, though, if I had to break it down. :D

2. "You bow to no one, my friends." |

I almost cried like a baby at that part.. the only thing that saved me was "there's nothing worse than watching a fat man weep" (Jay) running through my head.

5. Not disappointed with a single thing |
|
When Theodin died. When Sam carried Frodo to the peak. It got me, even though I expected it. I kept thinking Smigel would be redeemed. Sad (like a freeper!!) "You bow to no one, my friends." That one got me. Then when the Elfen Princess showed up I BAWLED. I was waiting for that! Everything from there on was anticlimactic.

First read the trilogy when those gaudy paperback editions came out my senior year. Then read it a few more times over the years. Decided to pick it up again when I heard a movie was imminent; didn't want the movie to "wreck" it. Also read the Silmarillion & was sorry I hadn't tried earlier.
However, the movies did not disappoint. I can understand the reason most changes were made; Tom Bombadil didn't fit the tone & the Scouring of the Shire would have been a let-down. I'm not totally sure about some of the changes, but I've forgiven them. The art direction, music, casting & scenery caught the spirit of Tolkien for me.
And the books are still out there. In fact, we've got new editions of Tolkien's work, being read by more people than ever. On to the "Unfinished Tales" for me. And my copy of the ROTK DVD should arrive this evening. Not that I won't get the Extended Edition this winter; it will, in fact, include some of the "missing" parts.
