Is there a name for this phenomenon? |
|
You know, when you sit down to watch a tv show you've seen maybe once before, and it's the exact same episode as the other time you watched it?
Happened to me just now with that Stargate show on the Sci-Fi Channel.

The same three shows tend to get old after a while.

It's the one where the woman is on this ship and they get attacked and she gets a head injury and everyone else disappears and she has visions of her friends appearing to her and giving her these cryptic messages about how to save herself. And there's also a little girl who I suppose symbolizes the child she never had because of her military career.
I enjoyed it the first time, but I really wanted to see something different.

2. That used to happen to me in the '90s with Star Trek: The Next Generation. |
|
Not once, but several times. And you're right; we need to come up with a sniglet for that phenomenon!

4. I hate when that happens |
|
It happens to me alot because I don't get to watch many of the prime time shows cause I work at night.
I guess I should learn to check the TV Guide.

8. Oh, don't get me started on BBCAmerica |
|
Endless reruns of Changing Rooms and Ground Force and twenty-year-old comedies, and not nearly enough showing of those wonderful dramas.

"The networks are cheap and only ever show one or two episodes of a series" syndrome. A lot of cable networks do that these days, it seems.

9. I call it the "I cannot frigging believe this!" syndrome. |
|
With me, it's never a show I get the chance to see often, either. I'll finally remember it or have time to watch it 3 months after the last viewing and voila: the very same episode.
That's one of the reasons I honestly resent it when I get hooked on a television show.
Can we start a national support group for this syndrome?

They show several episodes back to back.
It's a really good series, the best in production on television, albeit that's not saying much, and this last season slipped, but still a very solid series.

12. Happens to me often when tuning in for Simpsons reruns... |
|
Sad, isn't it? 15 seasons. Averages out to 22 episodes per season.
Over 450 episodes and still I can tune in 3 weeks later and they're reairing the same episode... ! :eyes: !

15. That happened with me the first season of Mission:Impossible |
|
I only got to see one show. Then I had the opportunity to watch it later in the season, and it was the same show, the one about the cardinal held prisoner in some Eastern Bloc country. I'm surprised it's not being played on one of the cable networks today. It's all about using your noggin to defeat the enemy instead of just blundering into an invasion.

Deja view. :-) On edit: Aha! I *knew* I didn't actually come up with that by myself. Must have seen it on a list like this one: http://www.unwords.com/alpha/s0-D.html
